Wavecom Launches Compact Phones Development Lab

Complete Technology Solution Provides State-of-the-Art Features and Great Design Flexibility

Issy-les-Moulineaux, France - 1 July 2003 - Wavecom SA (Nasdaq: WVCM; Euronext Nouveau Marché: 7306) today unveiled its Compact Phones Development Lab, a complete wireless technology solution designed to enable customers to bring compact, feature-rich mobile telephones to market quickly and easily

In order to keep up with shortening product life cycles, end-user demand for the latest features, and increasing competition, mobile telephone manufacturers need technology solutions that allow them to develop a wide range of new product models with the shortest possible time-to-market. Wavecom's Compact Phones Development Lab responds to this need by providing a complete suite of software, hardware, development tools and services that combines ease of integration with great design flexibility for the developer.

Developers can pick and choose from a wide range of features and functionalities, including 64 Mbit Nand Flash storage, USB connectivity, Wap2.0 and xHTML, as well as interfaces for integrated YUV cameras, MMS and picture management applications, 262K colors LCD screens, 64 tones polyphonic ringers and Java applications.

"After the SMS success, MMS will become the next standard for exchanging quick information between end-users," says Guy Lanrezac, Wavecom's Marketing Director. "Thanks to the Compact Phones Development Lab, our customers will be able to create mobile phones that let people take pictures, store them in the phone, download them on their PCs and exchange them with their friends. Picture management applications enable them to use their photos to customize the wall paper and screen saver, and even paste pictures of their friends into their phone books to see the face of the person who is calling."

He continues: "Besides having to integrate all these new features, design engineers also face the task of customizing and personalizing their products. Therefore, the Compact Phones Development Lab includes our Open MMI development tool. Open MMI is a comprehensive, Windows®-based tool which provides a quick and easy way for manufacturers to develop or customise user interfaces, which they can re-use for future products to reduce time-to-market even further."
