u-blox Introduces Low-Cost GPS Receivers Based on the 16-Channel, Low-Power ANTARIST Chipset
Thalwil, Switzerland, 11. July 2003 - u-blox, leading innovator in
GPS-based positioning technology, has introduced two new miniaturized
GPS receiver macro components to the ANTARIST product family, TIM-LF and
TIM-LC, in the well known macro component form factor.
The TIM-LF and TIM-LC are two new low-cost members of the TIM product
family. The main objective is backward compatibility to the TIM-LP while
providing customers a migration path to further cost reduction. Both
devices come in the same form factor and pin-out, and are software
compatible offering the NMEA and the binary UBX protocols.
Just like the TIM-LP, the new TIM-LF and TIM-LC are powered by the
16-channel, low-power ANTARIST chipset and have the same superior GPS
performance: less than 160 mW power consumption, 3m CEP accuracy, 41
second cold start, 3.5 second hot start, high sensitivity, and a 4 Hz
update rate. The innovative FixNOWT low-power mode allows further power
reductions and is ideally suited for applications such as
battery-operated handheld devices and untethered trailer tracking units.
"u-blox' TIM form factor has become the de-facto industry standard for
surface-mount GPS receivers," says Thomas Seiler, CEO of u-blox AG. "Our
customers now have the option for continued cost reduction without the
need for a redesign."
The TIM-LF features a programmable CPU platform which allows software
customization and integration of additional applications. The TIM-LF is
the right choice wherever system cost and size must be optimized. The
TIM-LC is the most cost-effective GPS receiver which focuses on the
basic GPS functionality without compromising performance.
u-blox is an internationally operating company with headquarters in
Switzerland and subsidiaries in Germany, UK, USA and Hong Kong. Since
its foundation in 1997, u-blox has shipped more than 500'000 GPS
receivers worldwide. For further information and contacts, please refer
