ipUnplugged Announces Secure Mobile IP Client for Pocket PC
Provides Multi-Network, Seamless Roaming Between Radio, Cellular, LAN, and WLAN
STOCKHOLM, Sweden--July 14, 2003--ipUnplugged AB, the leading developer of secure, seamless roaming solutions, today announced that their Mobile VPN solution now also runs on a Pocket PC device. Among one of the first companies to release a version of a Mobile IP client for Pocket PC, ipUnplugged delivers seamless communication across multiple radio, cellular (2G/2.5G and 3G), and wireless LAN (WLAN) networks. The solution is comprised of the ipUnplugged Roaming Client, Roaming Gateway, and Roaming Server, which enable mobile professionals to effectively communicate mission critical voice, video, and data across any IP network.
"Supporting the Pocket PC platform is strategically very important for our product line since Pocket PC devices are the mobile devices of the future," stated Lars Boman, CEO, ipUnplugged. "PDAs in general are becoming more popular, and we have seen the Pocket PC as a future proof choice. Many of our customers in the vertical segments are depending on these devices."
Secure, Transparent Roaming
While similar to conventional VPNs, ipUnplugged's solution dramatically enhances accessibility to wired and wireless LANs, enabling users to roam transparently and securely from one network to another without changing settings or losing connectivity. Designed for corporations, mobile operators, and ISPs, it allows both network and customer premises placement with centralized configuration and ease of deployment.
The software has been in trials with the world's leading cellular operators and enterprises and is being used by industry communication and networking companies, including: UTStarcom, a leading provider of core data networking technology for Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) wireless networks; Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU), a leading provider of network infrastructure, services and software for the world's largest communications service providers; and NEC Corp. (NASDAQ: NIPNY), one of the world's leading providers of Internet, broadband network and enterprise business solutions.
ipUnplugged Solution Overview
The mobile VPN solution consists of the three following products that combine to provide a scalable, standardized, and highly available solution that is also cost efficient and easy to deploy:
-- Roaming Gateway aggregates traffic from remote nodes and forwards it to the Roaming Client's current position.
-- Roaming Client software is installed on a laptop or PDA that manages the secure connection to the corporate network as well as the automatic, seamless choice of network, which is transparent to the mobile user.
-- Roaming Server offers a scalable, powerful, and user-friendly tool for network configuration, security management, and subscriber data handling.
