iAnywhere Solutions Leads Mobile Middleware Market

New report from leading industry analyst firm positions iAnywhere Solutions ahead of competitors in mobile middleware market

DUBLIN, Calif. - July 22, 2003 - In a recent report, IDC recognized iAnywhere Solutions, Inc., a subsidiary of Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY), as the leader in mobile middleware technology with higher revenues and market share than nearly 20 competitors. The results in this year’s report reflect the acquisition of AvantGo by Sybase in February 2003 and firmly position iAnywhere Solutions in the mobile middleware market for the second consecutive year.

"Of all of the pure-play enterprise-centric vendors, iAnywhere Solutions stands as the company with the strongest financial and marketing muscle, as a subsidiary of Sybase and with a strong solution portfolio," said Stephen Drake, program manager, Mobile Infrastructure Software at IDC, a leading provider of global IT research and advice. "With the addition of AvantGo and expansion into Wi-Fi initiatives, the company continues to build on its solution portfolio and leadership position within the mobile middleware market and is poised to continue as a key player."

"Mobile middleware is the key to enabling the unwired enterprise to have access to business critical information anytime, anywhere," said Terry Stepien, president of iAnywhere Solutions. "Our leading mobile middleware and our recently announced Wi-Fi initiative empower our customers and partners to create cost effective mobile solutions."

IDC expects the mobile middleware market to reach a compound annual growth rate of 36.5 percent through 2007, reaching a total of $1.58 billion. As defined by IDC, the mobile middleware market consists of a platform that includes server and/or client software that either extends the reach of existing IP or other mission-critical applications or offers the ability to develop new applications for mobile users leveraging wireless devices. Mobile middleware solutions can be deployed in a variety of wireless scenarios, including real-time wireless and wireless LAN/wireless WAN, a synchronization solution, or a combination. Mobile middleware may include the platform, front-end applications, and development tools as sold in a single offering or as a hosted offering.
