AT&T Wireless Taps Ryan Seacrest for His 'TXT APPEAL'

Reality-TV and Radio Show Host Sensation Ryan Seacrest to Promote AT&T Wireless Text Messaging

AT&T Wireless Continues to Entertain America With Industry-Leading Text Messaging Initiatives

REDMOND, Wash., July 24 - AT&T Wireless has signed television host and radio personality, Ryan Seacrest, to lend his "TXT APPEAL" to promote the company's fast-growing text messaging services. In kicking off this business venture, Ryan will appear in advertising and related promotions for AT&T Wireless' "TXT 4 A HOT SUMR" marketing campaign, a summer-long promotion linking text messaging with some of Hollywood's most recognizable, influential names and events.

AT&T Wireless will feature Ryan Seacrest in a variety of targeted marketing activities throughout the year, including radio and television commercials. Additional details of the agreement between AT&T Wireless and Ryan Seacrest were not disclosed.

"TXT 4 A HOT SUMR" builds on AT&T Wireless' success with interactive text messaging on television by incorporating messaging applications into this season's popular movies, music performances, magazines and more. The campaign also rewards customers for exercising their thumbs with the "TXT 4 A HOT SUMR" sweepstakes. From now through September 18, every message a customer sends automatically enters them to win prizes, including the grand prize of a 2003 Ford Thunderbird convertible. AT&T Wireless is also the first carrier in the U.S. to spearhead an interactive print campaign developed in cooperation with some of the biggest magazine titles in the country.

Part of the campaign's appeal is, like all things wireless, there are no strings attached. Everyday texting -- whether voting for their favorite contestant on CBS' Cupid or simply sending text messages between friends -- automatically enters them to win.

"Our agreement with Ryan is a natural progression of our relationship as he continues to be the face and voice behind our industry-leading initiatives in wireless entertainment and messaging services," said Andre Dahan, president of AT&T Wireless Mobile Multimedia Services. "Ryan has risen to become one of the premiere television hosts and radio personalities on air today by bringing great energy, humor and charisma to everything he does. He has also demonstrated his effectiveness in getting America to use text messaging, and we are fortunate to make use of his talent as we move into other entertainment arenas."

"I am thrilled to expand my relationship with a company as innovative and progressive as AT&T Wireless," said Ryan Seacrest. "Text messaging is one of the hottest new crazes in America and it's easy to see why. As an avid text messaging user myself and the man who introduced text voting to millions of viewers with American Idol, I'm excited to assume this role and continue to bring AT&T Wireless' text messaging into pop culture's mainstream."

"TXT 4 A HOT SUMMER"

With "TXT 4 A HOT SUMR," AT&T Wireless moves beyond interactive television into movies, music and magazines with compelling, user-friendly text messaging tie-ins. All customers are automatically entered and eligible to win simply by sending text messages this summer. Every message sent counts as another entry -- even downloading ring tones and graphics via text messaging -- so the more customers text, the better their chances are to win.

The campaign extends to a variety of brands and media throughout the summer, namely:

* Movies -- Paramount's Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life -- customers can enjoy text messaging trivia, download related ring tones, graphics, games, and more (see www.attwireless.com/press to view full press release).

* TV -- CBS' Cupid -- viewers can use text messaging to vote for and answer trivia questions about their favorite contestants on CBS' new reality-TV series (see www.attwireless.com/press to view full press release).

* Music -- AT&T Wireless Presents: The Hard Rock Live Series and Hard Rock "Vault" Tour -- customers will be able to download ring tones from dozens of chart-topping artists, preview music, send text messages to local radio stations to win tickets, and more.

* Magazines -- Entertainment Weekly, ESPN The Magazine, PEOPLE Magazine, and Rolling Stone Magazine, -- readers will be able to text-in answers to timely trivia questions related to the week's news and happenings, as well as other related topics.

Leading the Adoption of Messaging in the U.S.

With its "TXT 4 A HOT SUMR" campaign, AT&T Wireless again demonstrates its leadership in text messaging innovation and reliability in the U.S. AT&T Wireless was among the first of the national carriers to offer text messaging in the U.S. beginning in October 2000. In November 2001, AT&T Wireless became the first national carrier to allow its customers to send text messages to virtually any wireless phone -- regardless of the carrier -- simply by knowing the recipient's phone number. Last July, AT&T Wireless became the first carrier to introduce color picture messaging in the United States. In February of 2003, the company introduced multimedia messaging service (MMS) to the U.S. allowing customers to combine color pictures, animations, text and sound that can be sent to and from wireless phones.

Today, approximately eighty percent of AT&T Wireless customers have phones with text messaging capability. AT&T Wireless customers can take their compatible phones to over 100 countries and use text messaging to stay connected to family, friends, and business colleagues back here in the U.S. In addition, unlike with most other carriers, AT&T Wireless customers only pay for text messages that they send. Customers can receive an unlimited number of text messages at no charge. For additional information about the text messaging, visit www.attwireless.com/text.
