IOMO KICKS OFF URBAN FREESTYLE SOCCER

August 4th. Mobile games studio IOMO has partnered with Acclaim Entertainment (International), a division of Acclaim Entertainment Inc, a worldwide interactive entertainment company to develop a mobile game to promote its upcoming street soccer game Urban Freestyle Soccer, which is released on Sony PlayStation2, Microsoft Xbox, Nintendo Gamecube and PC this October.

The mobile game, entitled Urban Freestyle will be released through Vodafone live! from the end of July. It will be the first ever mobile game to be available prior to the retail release of the console game. In addition Vodafone live! customers will be able to reveal cheat codes on their handset game that will unlock exclusive areas in the console game.

The game is being developed to support a range of Vodafone live! handsets, including the Sharp GX10, Sharp GX10i, Sharp GX20, Nokia 7650 and Nokia 3650.

Urban Freestyle Soccer is the first urban arcade-style street soccer game of its kind to take the world’s most popular sport back to its street roots with gang-style teams competing against their rivals for the right to be crowned King of the Streets. The mobile version of the game will focus on ball skills, pitting the player's dexterity and timing against the clock in Urban Freestyle Soccer arcade and challenge games. The player will be able to maximize their score through expert timing and also learn key combinations to perform the ultimate tricks. As the tricks increase in difficulty and reflex skills are put to the test, so the player’s score increases.

“The Urban Freestyle Soccer video game is a really exciting concept and one which is also ideal for exploitation on mobile handsets both in the run-up to the new football season and for the launch of the console version of Urban Freestyle Soccer” said John Chasey, Managing Director of IOMO. “This is one of the first instances of a game extending across all technologies including mobile phones and we're very excited to be involved. We expect the mobile game to help drive players to the Urban Freestyle Soccer console game and vice versa. This could be the start of an interesting trend for major games brands in the future.”

“We're taking a fresh approach with Urban Freestyle Soccer by moving the game off of the grass and onto the streets, and infusing it with fast and addictive arcade-style gameplay that will appeal to the masses and soccer fans alike. The video game combines the best of the traditional sport within entirely new environments and creates a whole new way of playing,” commented Larry Sparks, VP Marketing – Acclaim International. “With the highest participation rate of any sport in the world today, we expect a big uptake for both the mobile and console versions alike. With the ability to reach out to soccer fans wherever they are, the mobile phone version offers an attractive way to reach a wide audience”

IOMO's expertise in mobile entertainment development was recognised recently, with the company being nominated as one of the UK's leading mobile games studios by Develop magazine.
