Computex Taipei 2003 Computer Show Will be Biggest Ever

TAIPEI, Taiwan, Aug. 7, 2003--While other technology trade shows based in Europe and North America have seen falling attendance numbers over the past few years, Computex Taipei in 2003 will actually see an increase in attendance numbers. This year's show is expected to bring 70,000 attendees, including 20,000 foreign buyers. At least 1,200 exhibitors will be present, an 8.41% increase from last year. As well, two new exhibition spaces will be offered with a total of 400 new booths. This growth reflects the ascendance of Asia as a major design and manufacturing center for cutting-edge technology solutions.

In particular, consolidation in the Taiwanese motherboard industry has seen Taiwan expand as a design and manufacturing center for more added-value products such as storage devices, digital cameras, web pads, PDAs and server products. The maturing of the Taiwanese IT industry is reflected in the growth of Computex 2003 to become the second-largest IT trade show in the world.

Computex's importance to the global IT industry has attracted the attention of companies such as AMD, American Megatrends, Intel, IOGEAR and Texas Instruments, all of whom will be exhibiting. Representing Taiwan's emergence as a global player in IT will be companies such as ABIT, Acer, Asus, BenQ, GigaByte, MSI, Ritek, Tatung and VIA among many others.

Anand Lal Shimpi, President and CEO of Anandtech.com, noted Computex Taipei is Asia's leading IT event, and has recently surpassed Comdex in importance. "Its importance will become even more vital since IT thrives on innovation and development," added Lal Shimpi. He added that for the PC industry, Computex offers the widest array of new products and emerging technologies.

In response to buyers' questions regarding future trends in IT, the Compuforum will provide a venue for discussion amongst the IT industry's most influential players, including Intel and Texas Instruments. The main topics of this year's Compuforum will be "Leading the Wireless Age: Exploring the Wireless Trend in Global IT Industry" and "Value Creation through Innovation -- Marketing Strategies on Globalization."
