TestQuest Announces New Symbian OS Functional Test Solution
URL(s): TestQuest
MINNEAPOLIS, August 18, 2003 –– TestQuest, Inc., the leader in functional test automation tools for wireless devices, today
introduced its TestQuest Interface for Symbian OS. The new interface provides connectivity between the TestQuest Pro test
system and Symbian OS-based phones to automate “black box” testing.
The TestQuest solution acts like a virtual user, controlling and verifying the phone’s operation using any of the phone’s available
communication transports.
“TestQuest’s innovative functional test solution helps Symbian OS licensees, who account for more than 80 percent of the
world’s annual mobile phone sales, reduce their Symbian OS-based products’ time to market,” said Ian Weston, vice president of
developer partnerships for Symbian Ltd. Symbian OS is the global industry standard operating system for advanced data-enabled
mobile phones.
“Through automated, rather than manual testing of our handsets, we can cut test cycle time, and broaden test coverage while at
the same time controlling testing costs,” said TestQuest customer Rick Ledford, engineering manager of verification for
Panasonic Mobile Communication Development Corp. of U.S.A.
The TestQuest Interface for Symbian OS is available for Series 60 phones and will be available for Symbian v7.0-based UIQ User
Interface. Emulators may also be used in lieu of the physical device. This second generation of TestQuest’s interface uses serial,
IR or Bluetooth transports, providing faster testing and the ability to simultaneously test a large number of Symbian OS-based
phones with a single TestQuest Pro system.
TestQuest Pro is already widely used in quality assurance organizations around the world doing Symbian OS testing. These
organizations currently use TestQuest’s “hardware integration” method of connectivity.
“The Interface for Symbian OS will provide an easier, more cost-effective alternative to connect to Symbian OS-based phones for
automated testing,” said Don Leick, product marketing manager, Mobile & Wireless, at TestQuest.
