magic4 and Huawei announce a unique MMS interoperability testing service for China
URL(s): Huawei
UK, 19 August 2003 – magic4 Ltd. and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.
magic4, the world’s leading supplier of mobile messaging software and Huawei Technologies, the leading Chinese vendor for
communications equipment and network solutions, have joined forces to set up an MMS interoperability testing (IOT) service for
GSM clients. This service combines magic4’s extensive MMS Client IOT program with Huawei’s MMS Center and knowledge of
the Chinese telecommunications infrastructure. It is designed for all GSM handsets in China.
The IOT program used for this service has been developed by magic4. It uses a combination of test tools, test cases and test
MMS messages that took over seven years engineering effort to develop. This program has already been used to test many MMS
devices; and is proven and mature. As part of this service Huawei provide access to their MMS Center (including log files). The
service is operated jointly between the two companies; magic4 provide experienced IOT consultants; Huawei provide MMS
Center engineers.
Using the magic4/Huawei IOT Solution gives the device manufacturer a clear understanding of how their MMS Client
interoperates with the Huawei MMS Center. The MMS Center logs and issue analysis provided enables them to fix any issues
found and re-test them. This level of testing means that the handset manufacturer can go to network operators in China safe in
the knowledge that their device has been tested against a relevant MMS Center, and is therefore a proven ‘end-to-end’ solution.
Conducting extensive IOT will shorten and simplify formal device acceptance testing by a network operator. This is of great value
to the handset manufacturer as it enables them to show a stable, fully tested device and therefore enhance their reputation as a
device supplier. It also brings great benefits to the operator who can perform acceptance testing in a time-efficient, cost-effective
way.
The magic4/Huawei MMS IOT program is a good example of how developing partnership relationships between major
telecommunications companies can generate a unique service for handset manufacturers. “We are pleased to be co-operating
with magic4 to deliver a world class service to ensure thorough interoperability between handsets and servers and rapid growth of
multimedia messaging.” says Nanjie Liu, Director of Business Development Department, Huawei Technologies.
“The magic4 interoperability testing program has taken over seven years to develop, it is constantly maintained to reflect changes
in the standards, network acceptance criteria and non-standard behaviour seen in commercially available devices. This approach,
which covers both standards and commercial reality, will enable device manufacturers to deliver MMS services to the largest
market in the most efficient and effective way. We are very happy to collaborate with Huawei and combine key strengths. Both
parties have their respective domain of expertise. This MMS interoperability service is the first step in a strategic interoperability
relationship between magic4 and Huawei that will cover both MMS and IM,” says Simon Wilkinson, magic4.
