Pick Up And Play Develops Classic Arcade Games for QUALCOMM's BREW(TM) Platform
URL(s): Pick Up And Play
LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif., Aug. 20 -- Head First Inc.
dba Pick Up And Play, a new alliance of successful console game developers
focusing their decades of experience on the wireless market, today announced
the availability of Barnyard Bouncin' and Alien Siege developed for QUALCOMM's
Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless(TM) (BREW(TM)) platform.
Pick Up And Play's first two games are based on retro coin-op style games
and both are currently available through Verizon Wireless' Get It Now(SM)
service. Barnyard Bouncin' got its roots from the black and white coin-op
game era, while Alien Siege is a combination of numerous arcade shoot 'em up
classics. Pick Up And Play has also designed a mobile game engine
specifically tailored for BREW devices. The engine assists in the production
of high quality games, and aims to help make the development quick and simple.
Using the game engine the company plans to develop additional original titles
as well as popular, branded games.
"Because of the BREW platform's standard we have been able to design a
solid code base that maximizes all of the capabilities of the phones without
having to recode each application," said Paul Foster, president and chief
executive officer, Pick Up And Play. "The BREW platform along with our game
engine allows us to develop new original titles and name brand titles with a
shorter development schedule and with a simple, streamlined process for
getting the games running on multiple handsets."
"Pick Up And Play is focused on using the BREW platform's high quality,
advanced sound and graphics capabilities to create compelling content for
operators offering BREW-based services to their end users," said Mike Yuen,
director, BREW Developer Relations, QUALCOMM Internet Services. "The company
is committed to bringing its experience in console game development to the
wireless industry -- producing quality applications that are sure to bring
enjoyment to wireless users."
QUALCOMM's BREW system provides products and services that connect the
mobile marketplace value chain, which includes application developers,
publishers, content providers, device manufacturers, operators and consumers.
Publishers and developers worldwide are generating revenue from BREW-based
applications and content, and 16 manufacturers have offered more than
70 BREW-enabled device models to consumers. BREW is successfully enabling the
commercial wireless data services of many very successful operators, including
Verizon Wireless, ALLTEL, Midwest Wireless and U.S. Cellular in the United
States, China Unicom, Japans KDDI, KTF in South Korea, Telstra in Australia
and VIVO (the joint venture between Telefonica Moviles and Portugal Telecom)
in Brazil.
