SAN DIEGO, Aug. 20 -- In support of continued efforts to deliver products that meet customer needs, QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), the leader in mobile communications for the transportation industry, today announced they have created a consortium to further the development of QUALCOMM's untethered trailer asset management system for the transportation and logistics industry. Schneider National, Inc., a leading provider of truckload and intermodal transportation and logistics solutions, has joined the consortium as its founding member.

Yesterday, Schneider National announced its selection of QUALCOMM as the company's provider of choice for untethered trailer tracking technology.

"The consortium will allow leading carriers committed to QUALCOMM's trailer tracking technology to provide insight and guidance to help lead our product direction, ensuring that current and future development phases meet the needs of the industry," said Chris Wolfe, president, QUALCOMM Wireless Business Solutions. "We're thrilled to have Schneider National as a founding member. Their industry leadership and knowledge will provide invaluable insight into the needs of the market."

The QUALCOMM Consortium will consist of executives from a select number of leading companies in transportation and related industries. This group will provide direction into how QUALCOMM's untethered trailer tracking product will be implemented into the market.

A Product Direction Council has been chartered to help provide feedback to QUALCOMM about product features for the untethered trailer tracking product. The council will consist of consortium members, who will be permanent members, and non-consortium members whose membership will rotate periodically. Product Direction Council members will be able to participate in alpha and beta product testing.

"QUALCOMM and Schneider National pioneered the advancement of mobile communications technology in 1988 and we're pleased to be a founding member of the trailer tracking consortium. We are excited to continue collaborating with QUALCOMM and other leaders in our industry as a critical part of the innovation process," said Paul Mueller, vice president of technology services, Schneider National. "The formalization of a consortium is a positive step toward delivering technology that allows us to continue providing the best service to our customers."

QUALCOMM is currently in discussions with a number of other leading transportation and logistics providers regarding participation in the company's untethered trailer tracking system consortium. "As QUALCOMM incorporates ideas from the consortium into the development of its new products, we believe that its new untethered trailer asset management system will surpass our expectations," said Mueller.
