Mi-Co Supports Seiko SmartPad for Pocket PC with Highly Mobile Enterprise Data Capture Solutions
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., Jan 30, 2003 - Mi-Co announced that its next release of its Mi-Forms Software System will support the
SmartPad(TM) handwriting capture system for Pocket PC from Seiko Instruments USA Inc.
The SmartPad makes it easy to transfer handwritten notes and drawings from paper to the HP iPAQ(TM), Jornada(TM) and Toshiba(TM) PDA's that utilize the Pocket
PC Operating System exclusively--and Mi-Forms now allows for efficient data capture at the enterprise level.
Mi-Co, headquartered in Research Triangle Park, is the maker of electronic data capture technology that enables users to digitally capture, on a number of devices, any
information that is handwritten. The leading edge Mi-Forms software used in other handwriting-recognition applications can now be used with the latest technology from
Seiko Instruments USA Inc.
"We have a number of current customers of the Mi-Forms System that have expressed interest in the light weight, mobile design of the Seiko Instruments SmartPad. To
give our customers the flexibility they desire, we are pleased to announce this support," said Barrett Joyner, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Mi-Co
"With the Mi-Forms System, the SmartPad portfolio is an excellent solution for enterprise professionals that are on the move and need to capture "forms based
information." These type of applications include health care professionals gathering patient information while doing rounds, quality control inspectors on site in restaurants
ensuring standards are being met, or home health nurses conducting surveys inside the patient's home as part of their patient profiles," added Joyner.
"Since its introduction, SmartPad has been providing end-users with an easy way to bridge the gap between digital storage and pen & paper," said Dennis Cox, Director of
Marketing for Seiko Instruments' Business & Home/Office Division. "Our partnership with Mi-Co is now benefiting our customers even more with the introduction of
Mi-Forms by enhancing the capabilities of SmartPad and PDAs."
The SmartPad is a sleek, easy-to-carry note pad portfolio, measuring 7.25"H x 10.5"W x 1.5"D, and with space for a standard 5" x 8" note pad and the HP- or Toshiba-
connected organizer. As users write on the notepad with the SmartPad pen (included), their notes and drawings are instantly transferred to the PDA. Notes are
automatically transferred to a notebook or desktop PC via the ActiveSync(R) operation.
"The SmartPad has been a solid hit in the consumer market and now with the Mi-Forms System, enterprise data capture solutions can be efficiently implemented to save
time, save money and increase the quality of an organization's data," added Joyner.
Mi-Co is one of the few software companies in the world that focuses on electronic ink processing and handwriting recognition for enterprise applications. As such, it is
uniquely positioned as the leading independent software vendor for handwriting capture devices, now and in the future.
