AirWalk Launches Industry's First Integrated Base Station and Base Station Controller for Voice and Data Wireless CDMA Networks

RICHARDSON, Texas - March 18, 2003-- Single BTS and BSC Platform Answers Coverage and Capacity Demands for Hotspots, Blindspots and In-Building Wireless Service

AirWalk Communications, Inc., a radio access network developer for CDMA wireless voice and data networks, today launched its integrated base station and base station controller to answer the service providers' demands for hotspots, blindspots and in-building voice and data wireless coverage. The industry's first integrated IP-BTS and BSC, AirWalk is delivering a compact, carrier-class, cost effective solution.

AirWalk's AW-32 and AW-96 are carrying live traffic in final acceptance testing with a major service provider in South Korea.

"The company's AW-Series is the result of RF and IP expertise combined in one total solution offering global and U.S. customers the ability to capture revenues associated with wireless hotspots, blindspots and in-building wireless coverage," said Jake Han, president and CEO, AirWalk. "We are addressing a key QoS pressure point with wireless service providers by answering their coverage and capacity issues. With AirWalk, carriers will dramatically improve the QoS for end-users and at the same time, capture revenue that is lost due to network performance gaps inherent in today's wireless service."

The company is targeting global wireless service providers offering them the benefits of a modular and stackable combination BTS/BSC platform designed to interface with a variety of network configurations. For in-building/campus wireless network deployments AirWalk offers a total end-to-end IP solution. These same radio access units may be deployed in today's CDMA networks through IP, E1/T1 and ATM interfaces.

By assembling a unique blend of core competencies in RAN infrastructure and refining the balance between hardware implementation and software applications, AirWalk's AW-96 is a mere 15 percent of its competitors' product footprint and 50 percent less costly.

Product Detail

AW-96, AirWalk's flagship product, is a CDMA 2000 micro solution. The company's core technology, is embedded in AW-96's unique design. It is the first, worldwide, to have both the transceiver and controller hardware in one unit as well as incorporating plug-in interfaces for Internet Protocol (IP), ATM and T1/E1. AW-96 is a Complete Universal, CDMA micro base station consisting of a digital controller and a modem solution supplied by Qualcomm. The unit can be configured to support licensed frequencies in all global CDMA markets.

The compact AW-32 unit is configured with 32 channel elements (CE) and can be mounted on a pole, wall or tower. The Flagship AW-96 is comprised of 96CE, 3Sectors, 1FA and can be installed on a standard 19" telecom rack.

The AW-Series RAN interfaces with either next generation or legacy networks over IP, T1/E1, and ATM interfaces. This flexibility provides a direct interconnect with a softswitch, Packet Data Serving Node (PDSN), and Media Gateway (MG) over IP for the 3G networks.

When configured as an end-to-end solution the network provides seamless wireless capabilities between the macro and micro networks. Subscribers can use one device for voice and data services independent of the network topology.

AirWalk will be exhibiting at CTIA 2003 in New Orleans, March 17-19, in the Korean Pavilion with our softswitch partner, Telcoware (booth # 6531-7), and in the CommWorks' booth, # 5565.
