BEATNIK AND MOTOROLA WORKING TO ENHANCE CONSUMER MOBILE AUDIO EXPERIENCE

Beatnik licenses XMF audio software to Motorola for high fidelity ringtones, game sounds and audio multimedia messages

San Mateo, CA – March 18, 2003 -- Beatnik, Inc., a leading provider of open standards-based structured audio software solutions for mobile devices, today announced that Motorola Personal Communications Sector has licensed Beatnik audio software for use in its products. The Beatnik solution provides support for musical polyphonic ringtones, linear audio playback, user interface sounds, audio multimedia messaging and game sound effects for mobile phones.

Beatnik’s software provides support for the latest open standard eXtensible Music Format (XMF) files that allow digital samples of sounds, instruments or vocals to be combined with synthesised instruments in generating high fidelity polyphonic audio. XMF content allows users to experience CD quality audio as ringtones, game sound effects and music clips in a format that can easily be delivered to handsets via a wireless interface.

“Motorola is leading the way in providing the latest open standards based audio capabilities in their mobile phones,” said Jeremy Copp, Beatnik’s Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing. “We are delighted to be working with them to add an extra audio dimension to the user experience of their handsets.”

“Our goal is to create the most compelling mobile user experiences possible, and audio integrity is clearly a key component in delivering that experience,” said Tracey Koziol, Motorola PCS Director of Product Line Management. “By integrating Beatnik’s software with Motorola’s mobile phones we will further enable a wide variety of fun, easy-to-use services for consumers and revenue generating opportunities for carriers and service providers — from premium ringtone services to enhanced multimedia messaging.”
