Mobile data services help in searches for missing persons
Munich, March 31st, 2003 - The Siemens Information and Communication Mobile Group (Siemens mobile) has
developed the "m.traction Senior Care Service", a person locating system
based on the GSM mobile communication standard now used worldwide by the
majority of mobile networks. Among the first customers is Human Security AG.
Effective immediately, this company can help German retirement and nursing
homes find missing inhabitants or patients. The goal of this service is to
enable people with slight orientation problems to move out of their
immediate residential area without the fear of not finding their way back.
Siemens mobile, which hosts this solution for its customers on servers, is
now offering the m.traction Senior Care Service to mobile providers
worldwide as an industry solution. Human Security has already won several
nursing facilities as customers.
The people being tracked wear a hidden, ergonomically formed fabric ribbon
on their arm or leg. This ribbon contains a TC35 GSM module from Siemens
that controls the transmission and receipt of the radio signals. The ribbon
also contains an antenna, a module for processing the localization
information, and a battery. To get the tracking ribbon, however, either the
person wearing it or their legal guardian must have agreed to the
localization system in writing.
When a person goes missing, the care staff calls Human Security's call
center. The service then queries the system, which uses the radio system to
find the person's present location. A map shows the location of the mobile
communication cell and the radius it covers. Based on this location
information, the search area can be substantially reduced, which speeds up
the search particularly in critical or even life-threatening situations.
"With our service we want to try to improve the quality of life particularly
for older people and people who need nursing care," says Alexander Hasel,
managing director of Human Security.
"The Senior Care Service proves that mobile data service applications are
not just limited to information and entertainment. I am convinced that with
these service we will be able to provide many new corporate applications in
the future, particularly in the field of nursing care and social services,"
said Volker Ziegler, Head of the Solutions Division of Siemens Mobile.
The Bavarian Human Security AG provides a simple, fast and low-cost solution
for determining the location of missing persons all over Germany. Additional
information is available at www.human-security.de.
