SAVOX To Bring GPS Capabilities To TETRA Communication Devices

SAVOX To Bring GPS Capabilities To TETRA Communication Devices, High-Performance GPS Accessory Built On Fastrax GPS Technology

Fastrax To Provide SAVOX With Small Footprint, Low Power Drain GPS Receivers, GPS Accessory For TETRA Terminals Introduced at BAPCO 2003, London, UK, April 2-3, 2003

Helsinki, Finland and London, UK (BAPCO 2003) - April 2, 2003 - Fastrax Ltd., a developer of industry-leading GPS receivers for optimal utilization of the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), and SAVOX Communications Ltd., a leading technology provider, designer and manufacturer of hands-free and positioning solutions for demanding use, today introduced a new GPS accessory for TETRA terminals.

TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) is a digital radio standard defined by the European Telecommunications Standardisation Institute (ETSI). The standard provides demanding mobile radio users, e.g. in emergency services, with significantly improved communications over previous analogue systems. The GPS accessory developed by SAVOX using Fastrax technology complements the TETRA communication system with highly accurate positioning features. The accessory connects to the serial port of TETRA devices.

The positioning information for the new SAVOX GPS accessory is provided with a Fastrax iTrax02/8 GPS receiver, featuring the lowest power consumption on the market. The low power drain enables an extremely long operating time, a crucial factor in a battery-operated device. Designed for demanding conditions, the iTrax 02/8 receiver offers industry-leading performance and fast time to first fix (TTFF). The iTrax02/8 also includes support for assisted GPS (A-GPS) for urban tracking.

SAVOX designs and manufactures products and applications for telecom and personal safety equipment manufacturers, with an objective to provide secure, efficient and safe communication solutions for professionals within public safety and industrial production. The new high-performance GPS positioning accessory enables a variety of additional safety-enhancing features and benefits.

"Public safety services across the globe are looking for solutions to improve response times, locating customers, and personal safety. In conjunction with the new Command&Control services in use by Public Safety organisations (including digital maps etc.), the positioning features of the SAVOX Track-Mate product family will open a completely new horizon for troop management. To match the design and product features we had defined for the new GPS accessory, we chose the Fastrax iTrax02/8 GPS receiver, which offers the optimal combination of performance, power drain, size and weight", said Mikael Westerlund, Sales Director, SAVOX Communications Ltd.

"TETRA networks and terminals are a major improvement for professionals who depend on the availability and robustness of their communication solutions. We are enthusiastic about the opportunity to work together with SAVOX to bring Fastrax GPS technology as part of these mission-critical solutions, improving the security and efficiency of emergency services and other professionals, and opening up new ways to organize their operations. With SAVOX's strong foothold and existing sales channels in the public sector, we look forward to a quick roll-out", said Kim Kaisti, VP Business Development, Fastrax Ltd.

Fastrax's product family of iTrax02 Series 12-channel GPS receivers offers key benefits in performance, size, power consumption and versatility. The iTrax02 Series modules with iSuite navigation software enable the implementation of position-aware features into practically any appliance. They are ideally suited for both industrial tracking systems and small battery-operated products like mobile phones, asset tracking devices, handheld computers and sports accessories.
