Summus' Wireless Application to Feature Multimedia Content from the Associated Press

RALEIGH, N.C--April 7, 2003-- Mobile users can now receive frequently updated news headlines, stories and photographs through AP Photos, News & Sports package, powered by BlueFuel(TM)

Summus, Inc. (USA) (OTCBB:SUMU), a developer of applications and information processing tools that optimize the wireless multimedia experience, and AP Digital, a division of The Associated Press that provides news and multimedia information to interactive markets, today announced the launch of a new wireless news application.

Developed by Summus, the application called AP Photos, News & Sports is now commercially available to subscribers through participating wireless carriers.

With AP Photos, News & Sports, subscribers can use their mobile phones to view three channels of AP news. 'Top News' contains headlines, photos and stories. 'World' and 'Sports' offer general news photos and captions. The application is powered by BlueFuel, Summus' Superfast, Superthin(TM) platform designed for efficient and easy interaction with information in the mobile environment, enabling quick transfer of crystal-clear digital photos and updated news text.

AP Photos, News & Sports was developed for QUALCOMM's Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless(TM) (BREW(TM)) platform. The application is also available on J2ME. It is available to wireless carriers for provision to their subscribers and a number of top national carriers have already signed on.

"We are pleased to work with Summus to offer a new way for wireless carriers to display AP photos, headlines and stories," said Thomas E. Slaughter, vice president and director of AP Digital. "The high quality digital photo images and breaking headlines and stories offer a dynamic news experience."

"Everyone wants to stay informed of significant world events and the AP Photos, News & Sports application gives subscribers the ability to stay updated while on the go," said Bjorn Jawerth, CEO of Summus. "As our business strategy evolves, we will continue to deliver compelling, revenue-generating applications to wireless carriers worldwide."

Summus' BlueFuel platform enables service providers, content providers and handset manufacturers to create and deliver robust mobile applications quickly and on a much wider range of devices and operating systems than competing solutions. The platform and architecture give developers the tools necessary to easily build applications for today's resource-constrained wireless environment while providing a superior user experience.

QUALCOMM's BREW solution is a complete product and business system for the development and over-the-air deployment of data services on wireless devices. The BREW solution provides the necessary tools and value-added services to developers, device manufacturers and wireless operators for the application development and distribution, device configuration, and billing and payment.
