Mobilian and SMART Modular Technologies Team to Offer Combination Wi-Fi Plus Bluetooth Solution

HILLSBORO, Ore. & FREMONT, Calif.--April 9, 2003-- SMART Joins Mobilian's TrueAlliance Program to Design High Volume Wi-Fi(R) (802.11b) Plus Bluetooth(TM) Cardbus and Mini-PCI Cards, and Self-Contained Modules for the Embedded Market

Mobilian Corporation, an industry leader in WLAN and Bluetooth coexistence, and SMART Modular Technologies, Inc., a wholly owned company of Solectron Corporation and a leader in modular communication products, announced today that SMART has joined Mobilian's TrueAlliance(TM) program. Together they will design and produce cardbus and mini-PCI form factor modules combining Bluetooth and Wi-Fi (802.11b) wireless protocols.

These combination solutions will use Mobilian's patented Sim-Op(TM) technologies to provide virtually interference free coexistence of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The modules, which will contain Mobilian's TrueRadio(TM) combination Wi-Fi plus Bluetooth chipsets, will be targeted to platforms that benefit from both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity such as PCs, handhelds, converged devices, broadband modems and information appliances.

According to Gordon Schenk, Mobilian's vice president of sales, "SMART and Mobilian make an excellent team. Mobilian's highly integrated two-chip solution for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth is perfectly complemented by SMART's board-level wireless design acumen and large volume manufacturing expertise."

"Our customer base today is using Bluetooth and Wi-Fi independently. We have focused on delivering fully integrated solutions because we believe our customers will embrace our new combination technologies. Mobilian's coexistence package removes many of the hurdles our respective customers face today," stated Robert Ragusano, SMART's vice president, general manager, Communication Products Division.

About TrueRadio

Mobilian's TrueRadio combination Wi-Fi plus Bluetooth chipset has been selected from a field of hundreds of candidates as a "Finalist" in the EDN 2002 Innovation of the Year Awards competition. This exclusive awards program, sponsored by EDN Magazine, is dedicated to honoring outstanding engineering products in the electronics industry.

The Mobilian TrueRadio chipset implements the analog and digital functionality of two complete radios in only two chips, delivering the most highly integrated combination Wi-Fi/Bluetooth reference design available in the industry. The TrueRadio chipset is based on Mobilian's proprietary Sim-Op technology, a selection of highly innovative techniques that allow each radio to operate at the same time, thus supporting applications that cannot tolerate small interruptions in signal transmission, such as voice and audio visual applications. The TrueRadio chipset represents the first available solution to enable simultaneous operation of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, providing "Coexistence without Compromise"(TM) to users of the technology.
