AsiaInfo Wins Multiple SMS Software Solution Contracts from China Mobile

BEIJING & SANTA CLARA, Calif.--April 16, 2003--AsiaInfo Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq:ASIA), a leading provider of telecom software solutions in China, today announced that it has signed contracts to provide China Mobile with its Internet Short Messaging Gateway (AIISMG) software solution. China Mobile's subscribers sent more than 80 billion short messages in 2002 and the company expects this number to reach 120 billion in 2003. Facing this intense and rapidly growing traffic, the carrier has contracted AsiaInfo to deploy its Internet Short Message Gate Way (AIISMG). Capable of handling thousands of messages per second, AIISMG enables short messages to flow securely and smoothly between the Internet and the different mobile networks, including GSM, CDMA, PHS (Personal Handyphone System), and 3G. Additionally, China Mobile has also contracted AsiaInfo to empower its subscribers with the ability to send and receive short messages to and from anywhere in the world.

Short Message Services (SMS) is a fast growing revenue source for China Mobile. With more than 100 million subscribers and SMS based monternet (Mobile Internet) users, the carrier expects to improve APRU (Average Revenue Per User) through improving SMS services.

"We are proud to be selected by China Mobile to expand its SMS service capabilities," said Xingsheng Zhang, president and Chief Executive Officer of AsiaInfo. "Despite the current market slowdown, value-added services, such as SMS, remain an important investment focus for China's telecommunications carriers. We are confident that AsiaInfo's advanced messaging solutions position us well to work with the carriers in building and developing their capabilities, while enabling us to expand our market share in this area."
