Wi-Fi Takes the Limelight at CTIA WIRELESS I.T. & ENTERTAINMENT 2003

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA) is pleased to announce the Smart Pass Executive Conference presented by Wi-Fi Planet Conference & Expo at CTIA WIRELESS I.T. & ENTERTAINMENT 2003, October 21-23 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"Wi-Fi is taking the world by storm. Companies and families and individuals are all taking advantage of the convenience and productivity Wi-Fi offers on several levels," said Tom Wheeler, President and CEO of the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA). "And this is just the beginning. Wi-Fi will get more mainstream, more widespread, and more central to the daily workings and lifestyles of businesses and consumers."

The Smart Pass Executive Conference will span two days and will include:
* Wi-Fi Security: Problems and Solutions
Tuesday, October 21, 2003, 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

The security deficits associated with 802.11 wireless LAN technology have received almost as much attention as its success in the marketplace. University research teams have published detailed exposés on cracking the basic security provisions specified in the IEEE standard, spurring titanic efforts on the part of vendors, the IEEE, the Wi-Fi Alliance, and others to rectify the situation. This seminar will discuss and examine these issues.

* Hotspots, Convergence, and Tomorrow's Wireless Business Model
Wednesday, October 22, 2003, 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

To date the business model for 802.11 networking has been simple: create an access point and hope enough people pay to access the wireless network. But with 802.11-based networking converging with wireless networks of all sorts - including WANs and wireless networks - a more sophisticated approach is needed. This session will discuss emerging trends in 802.11 networking and Wi-Fi hotspots that will help businesses build quality roadmaps for wireless networking.
