Recruitment via SMS set to revolutionise the recruitment industry
LegionONE recently launched SMS Recruiter™, an SMS recruitment solution that is currently reducing the recruitment process dramatically from days to hours. LegionONE’s SMS Recruiter™ allows recruitment agencies and HR departments to broadcast vacancies to existing databases of candidates and receive immediate responses via SMS.
According to statistics released in Federal Parliament last week by the Australian Communications Authority, Australia’s mobile telecommunications market has experienced a 44 per cent increase in the use of SMS messages from 2002 to 2003. The study also showed that in 2003, 40 per cent of small businesses reported to be using SMS, a 10 per cent increase from the previous year. Jupiter research suggests that messages sent via SMS in Australia will increase from 4 billion in 2003 to 9 billion in 2008 with the business community being a major driver of this activity.
LegionONE’s SMS Recruiter™ has recently been utilised by a large engineering services company to source skilled workers for a complex engineering project. After broadcasting the vacancy via SMS to previous candidates, interested applicants advised of their availability by return SMS resulting in the quota being filled within four hours. In addition, LegionONE’s SMS Recruiter™ was able to match the incoming SMS message against each candidate’s name to develop a roster ready for export into the company’s payroll system.
“SMS is a widely utilised communication tool and the extent of its applications are increasingly being identified and applied by corporates, recruitment agencies, HR departments and SME’s. The beauty of SMS systems is that they are able to deliver crucial information virtually instantaneously. Marketing organisiations, event management companies, IT service industry professionals and franchises are all realising the immediate benefits of SMS,” said Andrew Grill, General Manager Products and Services, LegionONE.
Temporary recruitment agencies making hundreds of phone calls to source staff on a regular basis are also discovering the benefits of LegionONE’s SMS Recruiter™. With LegionONE’s SMS Recruiter™, there is no need to make individual calls as a vacancy can be broadcast via SMS to a group of candidates with the necessary skills. There is also the unique option to set up an SMS broadcast list for people with specific qualifications such as temps with advanced PowerPoint skills. Once an appropriate candidate is found, the assignment can then be sent to them directly via SMS, avoiding the need to transcribe details over the phone. With SMS, the candidate receives the necessary information in one short message.
“Utilising SMS for recruitment purposes is just one of the almost endless possibilities for SMS in business and I believe it is becoming the new email,” said Andrew.
Corporate organisations currently using LegionONE’s solutions include the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Vodafone Australia and New Zealand, Wizard Home Loans and the Bureau of Meteorology as well as Government organisations such as the Board of Studies NSW and the Victorian Curriculum Assessment Association (VCTA).
