Birdstep Announces Partnership with Alice Systems

Seattle/Oslo, Norway - December 12th, 2003 - Birdstep Technology ASA today announced that it has established a partnership with Alice Systems, the leading European provider of data connectivity and configuration solutions to wireless telecommunication operators. Alice Systems software enables leading operators to offer "one-click" connection capabilities to their end users connecting from a PC or PDA across a GPRS, 3G or Wi-Fi network.

Alice Systems and Birdstep Technology can jointly deliver a solution that makes keeping connectivity across various networks and interfaces a positive user experience.

The Alice Systems' software is a generic tool for connecting various devices (PCs and PDAs) with different handsets and PC-cards over a multitude of network standards in a user-friendly manner. Alice Systems supports also the iDEN network standard, in addition to the GPRS, GSM, HSCSD, UMTS, CDMA, and WLAN network technologies.

"Alice Systems is the world's leading provider of GSM and GPRS connectivity client software, by integrating Birdstep's Mobile IP Client we can strengthen our offering and provide the unique ability for users to seamlessly move from one connection to the other without interruption," said Anders Björkman, CEO of Alice Systems. "Together, the companies deliver a best-in-class solution that enables wireless operators to improve the experience of end users as they move between different networks."

Birdstep's Intelligent Mobile IP Client enables secure and continuous connectivity of mobile devices through any network - including LAN, WLAN, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and cellular. Birdstep's Mobile IP client also offers a unique VPN on/off feature that automatically leverages a company's existing VPN when accessing external, unsecured networks, such as public hot spots or cellular connections.

"Our Mobile IP technology will add to the user-friendliness of Alice Systems offering,' said Stefano Holguin, Market and Product Manager for Birdstep. ' We believe our combined solution will appeal the new generation of users requiring seamless continuous connectivity no matter what type of network is available at any time."
