WirelessDevNet.com Press Release

Mobile Commerce Becomes The First Provider of Location-Based Services to go Live with all UK Mobile Network Operators

London, 28 July 2003 - Following its recent announcements of the agreements with O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone to allow developers to design services for customers of the four UK mobile networks, Mobile Commerce today announced that it is the first provider of location-based services to go live as a single source for approved third party applications. This will allow application developers to add Mobile Commerce's enhanced location data to their services, be they find-a-friend, what's-nearby or corporate applications such as fleet tracking.

Since it started offering its location API (Application Programming Interface) Mobile Commerce has been approached by over a hundred developers who are planning to add a location element to their offering. The deal is the first of its kind in the UK where content providers can approach a single organisation to launch a location-enabled service to the whole UK mobile population.

Before this one-stop-shop from Mobile Commerce, those wishing to provide such a service needed to approach operators directly, a time-consuming and complicated process which in addition required the necessary routing infrastructure technology. Companies that can take advantage of Mobile Commerce's API are extremely varied and include those wanting to advertise their products through mobile technology, businesses with their own complementary technology as well content and media owners wanting to produce their own applications.

"We are extremely excited to be the first organisation to supply cross-network user location to content providers. Our unique reverse-geocoding technique adds value to the location data we access from the mobile network operators, and continues to drive demand for our Location Finder API service. This is a very significant step in mobile technology and will push location-based services into the UK mass market, just as SMS aggregation made this possible for texting and the market has exploded as a result - to date this year, in the UK alone 8.3 billion text messages have been sent," said Steve Page, CEO of Mobile Commerce. "Our relationship with O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone means that service providers will no longer need to establish technical and commercial agreements with each operator, as they can deal directly with Mobile Commerce."

Recently in conjunction with MI International and The Carphone Warehouse, Mobile Commerce launched mapAmobile, the first mobile location service available on the high street which uses mobile phone networks to determine the location of a mobile phone anywhere in the UK in seconds. mapAmobile appeals to a broad range of users, from parents and children to business organisations where this service represents a more affordable option to GPS-based systems.

About Mobile Commerce

Mobile Commerce, founded in 1999, is the UK's leading provider of location-based services. Mobile Commerce supplies location-based products to the customers of leading wireless network operators/portals (including Vodafone, O2, T-Mobile online and Orange), media owners, content owners and any organisation seeking to provide value-added location-based information to their customers and employees.

Services are network and handset independent and can be accessed via voice, WAP or SMS. An XML API content feed is also available. The company uses a range of tools to identify the caller's location and then employs extensive databases, sophisticated search mechanisms and state-of-the-art mapping technology to provide accurate and relevant information about services available in the caller's current or intended location.
