Mforma Opens LA Office to Focus on Turning Hollywood Brands Into Compelling Wireless Entertainment
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Nov. 12 -- Mforma Group Inc., a leading
global provider of wireless entertainment content, has established a permanent
presence in Los Angeles in response to the strong demand of wireless operators
to have wireless versions of film, video games and music titles for their
subscribers. To run the new operation, Mforma has appointed two executives
with extensive experience in digital media and wireless. Robert Tercek has
been named executive vice president of programming, responsible for overall
programming strategy, and Scott Jensen has been named vice president of media
and licensing, responsible for brand acquisition and partnerships.
"Robert and Scott, who are well known in the entertainment world, will
work directly with Hollywood studios, brand owners, and content developers to
ensure we have a steady stream of the world's best wireless entertainment
content available to wireless operators and their subscribers," said
Daniel Kranzler, Mforma CEO. "We expect to be number one in facilitating the
broad consumer adoption of mobile entertainment and having a presence in the
entertainment capital of the world will be instrumental in making this
happen."
Robert Tercek is considered a pioneer in mobile entertainment. As
president of applications and services for PacketVideo, he launched the
world's first multimedia programming services for cellular networks, and as
senior vice president of digital media at Sony Pictures Entertainment, he
launched Sony's online games and interactive TV services. Tercek also managed
the media and entertainment practice for MTPG, a telecom industry strategic
advisory firm. Tercek serves as chairman of the mobile symposium for the Game
Developers Conference, and co-chairman of the wireless entertainment
conference of CTIA (Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association).
"In my experience, games have proven to be the most compelling application
on two-way digital networks," said Tercek. "This phenomenon has occurred in
narrowband, broadband, and interactive TV, and wireless will be no exception.
I am thrilled about the prospect of leveraging Mforma's leadership position to
introduce a full range of quality mobile entertainment products, which are in
demand by consumers worldwide."
Scott Jensen, prior to joining Mforma, was president of NuvoStudios, one
of the first wireless game development studios in the U.S. He was also a
member of the management team that founded SportSkill, a fantasy sports
applications service provider, where he negotiated deals with professional
sports leagues, athletes such as Reggie Jackson, and media partners including
FOX Sports. While a practicing attorney, Jensen advised entertainment and
technology clients and wrote for numerous trade publications, including
Cyberspace Lawyer.
"The number of wireless users is growing at a fantastic rate and movie
studios, games companies, and other brand owners want very much to extend
their brands globally to wireless," said Jensen. "Our presence in Los Angeles
will streamline the process of getting top branded entertainment content into
the hands of users as quickly as possible."
Industry analysts around the world are projecting significant growth in
the wireless entertainment market. New research from ARC Group estimates that
mobile entertainment services will generate over $27 billion globally by 2008
and will have over 2.5 billion users. The Research Room estimates a global
market of $41 billion by 2007, which comprises $16 billion in games purchase
revenue and $25 billion in increased network traffic.
