Guardian Mobility Launches Satellite-Based Remote Asset Tracking Systems
OTTAWA, CANADA — November 19, 2003 — Guardian Mobility™ Corporation introduced today its Guardian Sentinel™ and Guardian Sentinel GPS, two satellite-based remote asset tracking systems. These compact and battery-operated devices are part of a customizable platform that allows virtually any industry to track and locate people and assets cost-effectively and in near real-time.
Guardian Sentinel and Guardian Sentinel GPS are low-cost, integrated, one-way satellite communication data devices that can provide location information and telemetry data on people and equipment situated in remote areas. Compact, rugged and transportable, Guardian Sentinel and Guardian Sentinel GPS are simple to use, and can be installed in just minutes on a backpack, vehicle or structure. Self-contained and maintenance-free, the data devices consume minimal power with conventional off-the-shelf batteries to automatically transmit low volumes of data in near-real time. The units can be user-configured so that transmissions are triggered at regularly scheduled intervals, by time or by specific events such as pressing a panic button. Further, the Guardian Sentinel GPS uses leading GPS technology that provides position locating to within six meters.
The Guardian remote asset management platform is ideal for any industry that needs to monitor the status of widely distributed personnel or assets, including alarm companies, transportation companies, law enforcement, heavy construction, government agencies, oil and gas, forestry and firefighting. The Sentinel platform has already been deployed non-commercially to a number of organizations.
Guardian Mobility will showcase the platform at the 7th Annual Wildland Fire Safety Summit, Nov. 18 to 20 in Toronto. This international event brings together fire safety experts from around the world.
"We are very excited about the potential of Guardian Sentinel and its adaptability to a wide range of remote applications that require what we call situational awareness,” said Mike Fraser, Manager, Radio Technical Services, Saskatchewan Environment. "We have been waiting a long time for a cost-effective solution, and look forward to continuing our close working relationship with Guardian Mobility.”
“Guardian Sentinel products give organizations a powerful new tool to safeguard valuable resources in isolated regions,” said Jean Carr, CEO, Guardian Mobility Corporation. “And providing this enhanced level of safety and security comes at a low cost: Sentinel products are the most cost-effective tracking and monitoring solutions available — ideal for a diverse range of remote resource operations including firefighting, mining, oil and gas, surveying, and water monitoring.”
How Guardian Sentinel Products Work
Guardian Sentinel products are engineered to be nearly plug-and-play with virtually any type of environmental sensor, and feature RS232, analog and digital inputs that make it compatible with most devices.
Sentinel products take advantage of the Globalstar low-earth orbit satellite communications network. Using an uplink-only connection, data from the Sentinel units is transmitted to the satellite network, which in turn is transmitted to secure servers at Guardian Mobility. Command and control personnel can then connect to a secure web server to view data transmissions while field-based crews can be automatically notified of transmissions via email, cell phone or fax, depending on operational requirements. In addition, Guardian Mobility offers BackOffice monitoring and event response capabilities, which can be seamlessly integrated with existing operations and systems.
Product Availability
Guardian Sentinel products are currently available in pre-release plastics for field trial applications. Production versions are scheduled to ship in volume Q1 2004.
