AirIQ Adds Suite of Vehicle Information Services
TORONTO, Oct. 1 - AirIQ Inc. (TSX:IQ), a leader in
the Telematics industry, announces a new suite of vehicle information services
called AirIQ VehicleConnect(TM). AirIQ VehicleConnect(TM) services will
augment the Company's existing location-based Telematics services by
integrating the abilities to:
1. remotely obtain information carried by vehicle electronics (i.e.,
odometer and fuel level readings);
2. report vehicle trouble codes (i.e., engine, electrical and A/C
system reporting); and,
3. send safety alarms initiated from the vehicle's supplementary
restraint system (i.e., airbag deployed and seatbelt locked,
etc.).
"The combination of location-based and vehicle-based information services
amplify the return on investment for our fleet customers," says Donald
Simmonds, President and CEO of AirIQ. "This development enhances AirIQ's
leadership position in providing remote information and control services to
commercial vehicle fleets, and it completes the technological foundation
necessary for a strong entry into the consumer Telematics market."
To deliver the AirIQ VehicleConnect(TM) service suite, the Company is
introducing a vehicle connectivity module (VCM) that plugs into the North
American standard connector (ODBII) of year 2002 passenger vehicles and newer.
The VCM also connects to AirIQ's Telematics' devices, which deliver AirIQ's
suite of location-based services, and is designed to be backward compatible
for AirIQ's customers. The Company's existing customers can add AirIQ
VehicleConnect(TM) services for an incremental service fee.
Through an agreement with AirIQ, the VCM's development to AirIQ's
specifications was undertaken by Invotronics, a subsidiary of Solectron
Corporation (NYSE:SLR), a leading provider of electronics manufacturing and
supply chain management services. Solectron is a supplier to the automotive
industry providing collaborative design support, manufacturing of electronics
and electro-mechanical solutions. Current products include control modules,
Telematics modules, actuators, coil assemblies, switches and integrated
systems. Development support capabilities include design - electrical
hardware, electro-mechanical, mechanical and P.C.B.; simulation - electrical,
electro-mechanical and thermal; software development; and product validation
and testing.
"Vehicle connectivity is the next logical and insightful step for the
Telematics industry," said Earl Hughson, President of Solectron's Invotronics
unit. "We are pleased to have been selected by AirIQ as their technology
partner for this strategic development. AirIQ is in a prime position to put
this technology to work in the automotive aftermarket without delay."
