WirelessDevNet.com Press Release

Comverse Demonstrates SMS Interconnection with SIP over WiFi Networks

Comverse Demonstrates SMS Interconnection with SIP over WiFi Networks, as Part of Its Total Communication Portfolio Comverse, a unit of Comverse Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: CMVT), and the world's leading supplier of software and systems enabling network-based multimedia enhanced communications services, today announced a demonstration of its SMS interconnection with WiFi networks over SIP (Session Initiation Protocol). The demonstration will be presented at ITU Telecom World, October 12-18 in Geneva, Switzerland, at the Comverse stand (Hall 1, USA Pavilion, stand no. 1230.317). The Comverse ISMSC system allows users logged on to a WiFi network to send and receive short text messages to and from mobile users worldwide. For the mobile operator, this function is designed to provide new opportunities for revenue generation through the offering of enhanced services.

Advanced SIP signaling capability is based on Comverse in-house developments. Comverse's full ownership of an end-to-end text messaging solution enables service providers to achieve smooth migration to next generation IP networks via a hybrid solution (SS7, SIGTRAN, SIP), which is designed to minimize capital expenditure and risk.

At ITU, Comverse will demonstrate how WiFi users can send short text messages to and from advanced technology terminals -- such as a WiFi enabled PDA -- and dual technology networks -- using SIP via the Comverse ISMSC. The demonstration includes sending and receiving messages between a handheld device and a mobile phone.

According to Benny Einhorn, Chief Marketing Officer of Comverse: "This system is another example of Comverse's firm commitment to continuously develop SMS text messaging solutions that enhance the ISMSC portfolio for future applications, infrastructure and demands."

About Comverse ISMSC

More than 190 mobile operators around the world have chosen Comverse's highly scalable, robust, telco-grade ISMSC. ISMSC provides operators with a secure, evolutionary path to next generation networks, through hybrid TDM/IP/ATM solutions, utilizing Comverse's in-house signaling expertise.

The ISMSC is designed to enable operators to recognize revenue potential from SMS applications, through the ISMSC application gateway open standard interfaces to popular SMS protocols, making it easy to connect the system to existing and new applications developed in-house or by third parties. The integration capabilities of Comverse Call Completion notification and ISMSC solutions are designed to enable operators to boost data and text-messaging ARPU.

Comverse's ISMSC is designed to meet the challenge of expanding usage levels for SMS and other messaging applications. This solution is designed to enable operators to improve revenues while saving OPEX, increase service usage by existing subscribers and drive service adoption by new users.
