Free Seminar Informs Users About Benefits of Mobile Geographic Information System
Redlands, California-ESRI, Trimble, and Tele Atlas are offering a
half-day
seminar that focuses on mobile geographic information system (GIS)
technology. Attendees will learn about the latest software, data, and
equipment and how it is applied in many industries. The seminar will
consist
of discussions, presentations, and demonstrations.
"The teaming of Tele Atlas, Trimble, and ESRI offers users a complete
solution in mobile GIS," says Skip Parker, director, GIS Markets, Tele
Atlas. "The combination of hardware, software, and fully-attributed
navigation data will provide the necessary tools to help users
implement
their mobile solutions quickly and improve overall efficiency."
A mobile GIS integrates three essential technologies: GIS software,
global positioning system (GPS) technology, and handheld computers. As
these
technologies merge, field-based personnel can directly access their
organization's enterprise database. The information collected by
personnel
can then be added to this database from the field anywhere and at any
time.
Numerous industries, including all levels of government, natural
resources
management, electric utilities, oil and gas, telecommunications,
environmental consulting, and many others, greatly benefit from the
solutions offered by mobile GIS.
"With mobile GIS, databases become directly accessible to field-based
personnel whenever and wherever information is needed," says Richard
Williams, Trimble's director of marketing for mapping and GIS. "In
these
seminars, attendees learn about the various technologies and field
requirements that will help plan their business roadmap to bridge the
gap
between the field and office."
Recent developments in technology have dramatically improved the
efficiency
of mobile GIS. The seminar will explore how ESRI's ArcPad software
suite,
supported by ArcGIS 8.3 technology; Trimble's GeoExplorer CE field
devices,
along with GPScorrect and Pathfinder Express; and data from Tele Atlas
North
America can be combined to deliver a strong solution for mobile GIS.
