WirelessDevNet.com Press Release
Tatara Systems Unveils SDK
New partner, Alice Systems - the leading European provider of GPRS and UMTS connectivity clients - will work with Tatara to deliver a best-in-class integrated solution to market
Las Vegas - Tatara Systems, a developer of service delivery platforms that accelerate the path to profitability for public wireless LAN ("Wi-Fi") service providers, today unveiled a new software developer's kit (SDK) as part of the Tatara Wi-Fi Service Delivery Platform. Using the new Tatara Service Manager SDK, operators can extend their existing connectivity client software - which many have already deployed to support 2.5G, 3G, dial-up or public Wi-Fi data services - to capitalize on the advanced roaming and service capabilities provided by the Tatara Subscriber Gateway. These modifications involve no disruptions to subscribers who are already using the operator's existing connectivity software, as they continue to access networks using their familiar user interface.
By using the SDK to create a link between existing client software and the back-end Tatara Subscriber Gateway, service providers create an infrastructure that enhances the value of a public Wi-Fi service offering for both the end user and the service provider. Tatara's Wi-Fi Service Delivery Platform allows service providers to:
* Maintain real-time presence, state and reachability information for all end users, no matter whose network they are on - even after a VPN connection has been established;
* Extend their revenue-generating services and maintain control even when customers roam onto partners' networks; and
* Deliver critical features that are missing from today's Wi-Fi experience, such as a consistent user experience across all networks as well as advanced security;
The Tatara Service Manager SDK provides a natural vehicle for operators with existing client software to take advantage of these capabilities. By integrating a set of libraries available on a wide range of laptop and handheld device operating systems, the existing client software used by the operator can be extended with new features and functionality.
"Many wireless and wireline service providers who have already equipped their subscribers with connectivity software allowing them to more easily access data networks such as Wi-Fi, GPRS, CDMA 1xRTT, dial-up or others would like to extend the full range of capabilities offered by the Tatara Subscriber Gateway to these subscribers," said Steve Nicolle, President and CEO of Tatara Systems. "With our new Tatara Service Manager SDK, operators do not have to change the software interface that their subscribers are already using to take advantage of the many capabilities of the Tatara Wi-Fi Service Delivery Platform including superior subscriber management and advanced service delivery."
Tatara also announced a new partnership with Alice Systems, the leading European provider of data connectivity and configuration solutions to wireless telecommunication operators. Alice Systems' Alice Connect software enables leading operators such as Vodafone, T-Mobile, mmO2 and KPN to offer "one-click" connection capabilities to their end users connecting from a PC or PDA across a GPRS, 3G or Wi-Fi network.
Alice Systems and Tatara can jointly deliver an unparalleled suite of Wi-Fi and WAN capabilities. By integrating Tatara's Service Manager SDK components with a similar suite of Alice connectivity modules, the resulting solution - covered by multiple patents - offers both the widest set of capabilities and the deepest production deployment history of anything on the market.
"Alice Systems is the world's leading provider of GSM and GPRS connectivity client software, while Tatara's strength lies in the unique ability of its Wi-Fi Service Delivery Platform to offer differentiated service capabilities to tier one service providers," said Anders Björkman, CEO of Alice Systems. "Together, the companies deliver a best-in-class solution that enables wireless operators to improve the experience of end users as they travel between wireless networks."
