Netopia's 3-D Reach Wi-Fi Technology Scores Best in Independent Lab Test
EMERYVILLE, Calif.--Oct. 27, 2003--Netopia, Inc. (Nasdaq:NTPA), a market leader in broadband equipment, software and services, today released the results of wireless performance tests conducted by News IQ Inc., a leading independent wireless testing and evaluation laboratory. The test results from News IQ Labs demonstrate the superior wireless network coverage and performance of Netopia's Wi-Fi CERTIFIED(TM) DSL Gateways with 3-D Reach(TM) technology when compared with competitive products available from 2Wire, Linksys, NETGEAR, Siemens, and ZyXEL.
In a wide range of tests, Netopia's 3347W Wi-Fi CERTIFIED(TM) ADSL Gateway demonstrated superior wireless range and greater receiver sensitivity than the competition. Comparing the Netopia 3347W with ADSL wireless gateways from 2Wire and ZyXEL, the Netopia 3347W was the only ADSL wireless gateway that transmitted wireless traffic beyond 100 meters (328 feet). The results were equally impressive when testing the Netopia 3347W against Linksys, NETGEAR and Siemens Cable/DSL gateways that do not include an internal ADSL modem. At 180 meters (591 feet), the longest distance tested, the Netopia 3347W transmitted 68% of the traffic at the highest speed of 11Mbps. In contrast, at this distance the NETGEAR gateway transmitted 42% of traffic at 11 Mbps, and the Linksys and Siemens gateways failed to transmit any traffic. In tests for receiver sensitivity, News IQ also found that the Netopia 3347W's wireless receiver sensitivity surpassed the competition. Better receiver sensitivity improves wireless performance and allows the wireless gateway to receive more traffic, even in the presence of thick walls, metal objects or other physical barriers.
