Motorola Selects Trolltech for the A760 Linux Smartphone
OSLO, Norway--Oct. 31, 2003--Trolltech(R), a leader in multiplatform development frameworks, today announced that Motorola(R), a global leader in integrated communications and embedded electronics solutions, has chosen Trolltech's application development framework, Qt/Embedded(R), for the new Linux(R) OS-based A760 smartphone. By selecting Qt/Embedded, the de facto standard for embedded Linux GUI development, Motorola is provided with a robust platform on which to create a stunning suite of applications for the A760.
The Motorola A760 combines features of a mobile phone with the capabilities of a digital camera, video player, MP3 player, speakerphone, advanced messaging, instant Internet access and Bluetooth(R) wireless technology. Because Qt/Embedded is a modular platform, it allows for customized solutions with very little effort. The A760 is the first handset from Motorola to demonstrate the company's commitment to making the Linux operating system a cornerstone of its software strategy for mobile devices.
Additionally, Motorola's choice of Qt/Embedded for the A760 opens the way to a vibrant third party developer community. There are already thousands of existing mobile applications created for Trolltech's platform, all of which can be ported to the A760.
