WirelessDevNet.com Press Release
Siemens Updates Developer Portal
With the acceleration of consumer demand for sophisticated smartphones the importance of developer services is growing for all the major mobile phone vendors. Making sure that a developer portal is both easy to use and comprehensive is no easy task and many portals are evolving as developers gain an increasing understanding of what they need to create scaleable, profitable software and content.
“We have been talking to our developers and getting their feedback on how we can effectively structure the portal to better meet their needs” said Julia Cosmann, Director Content and Partner Management, who is responsible for Siemens’ Developer Program. “As a result of this feedback the main change we have make is to split the general information about partnering with Siemens away from the developer portal to make technical information on our Java and Series 60 phones more easily accessible.”
While this main change is largely cosmetic there are also more substantial changes being made to the web sites content. “With the relaunch has come improvement in our forum support,” explained Julia. “Perhaps the most significant one for developers is the improvement we have make in information on bugs, previously developers found these by searching the support forums but in the new portal there is a dedicated area where they can access this information more directly.”
There are also changes in the site navigation making it easier to find information along with improvements to the closed early access area.
“We have a number of longer term plans for improving the portal,” said Julia. “For example, we are looking at options to migrate the forums to a standard forum package, which hopefully will make life easier for our developers by providing tools with a more familiar interface.”
The new site will also feature full Series 60 support with access to the SDK, links to Metrowerks, who will be providing development tools, and an increased range of white papers.
The first stage of Siemens’ update to the developer portal is now live, the portal can be accessed at http://www.siemens-mobile.com/developer.
