WirelessDevNet.com Press Release
Mobintelecom To Launch Traxer Personal Security Device
Helsinki, Finland and Shanghai, China (CeBIT Asia 2003) – September 18,
2003 – Fastrax Ltd., a developer of GPS receivers with industry-leading performance and feature set, and Mobintelecom Oy, a provider of wireless telematics security solutions, today introduced Traxer, a pocket size device for personal security. Based on Fastrax GPS technology combined with a dual-band GSM/GPRS modem, Traxer devices are developed and manufactured in cooperation with Global Sun Technologies Inc, Taiwanese-based partners of Mobintelecom and Fastrax, and first introduced in public at the CeBIT Asia Trade Fair starting on September 18th in Shanghai, China.
Operating as a standalone personal security device, Traxer fits easily in a jacket pocket, weighing less than 100 grams. In case of an emergency, Traxer is activated quickly by pressing an easy-touch panic button. Upon activation the device uses the Fastrax GPS receiver to define its exact position, direction and velocity, and autodials or sends an SMS message to a set of predefined numbers via the GSM network. Autodial and messaging cycle is repeated until the alert and position information is delivered. Traxer standard security features also include voice and speed monitoring and geo-fencing.
In partnership with a world-leading security solutions provider Securitas and the largest Nordic telecom operator TeliaSonera, Mobintelecom will pilot a security service package built around the Traxer device in the Finnish market. The complete ready-made package includes the Traxer personal security device with a pre-programmed GSM connection to 24/7 emergency center services, all with a daily rate from 2 euros per user on a two-year service agreement.
“With the Fastrax GPS receivers we have been able to develop an accurate and reliable personal security device with an extremely long operating time. As an example, placing the Traxer into a child’s pocket brings peace of mind to both the child and the parents – should anything go wrong, it is easy for the child to send an alarm and know that he or she is not alone for long”, said Stephen Lowe, COO, Mobintelecom. “Fastrax GPS technology was selected due to its exceptional price/performance advantages over its nearest competitors.”
“The Traxer personal security device, especially bundled into a ready-made package with the necessary services, is a new concept that highlights the opportunities opened up through the development of GPS technologies. GPS receivers are now small, lightweight and low-power consuming components that provide a platform to develop easy-to-carry, easy-to-use tracking and security services. We are glad to be an integral part in a service that may save lives”, said Kim Kaisti, VP Business Development, Fastrax Ltd.
The shockproof, water resistant Traxer personal security device includes a stamp-size Fastrax GPS receiver and a dual-band GSM/GPRS communications module along with GPS and GSM patch antennas. With dimensions of 110 x 52 x
33 mm and weight of 85 grams with battery, the device fits easily in a jacket pocket. Ease of use is ensured with just three buttons, a green LED to indicate power-on, and a red LED to indicate that an alarm has been made.
The location information for the Traxer is provided with a Fastrax iTrax02/8 OEM GPS receiver, one of the lowest power consuming 12-channel OEM GPS receivers on the market. Designed for demanding conditions, Fastrax GPS technology offers industry-leading accuracy and reliability along with fast time to first fix (TTFF). The low power drain allows Traxer an operating time of up to 30 days. Traxer power supply is a standard NiMH battery that may be charged using a regular AC or DC charger, for example the Nokia 3310 charger, often made available at restaurants, airports, etc.
Fastrax’s product families of iTrax02 and iTrax03 series 12-channel GPS receivers offer industry-leading benefits in performance, size, power consumption and versatility. The Fastrax GPS receivers with iSuite navigation firmware enable the implementation of position-aware features into practically any appliance. The modules are ideally suited for both industrial tracking systems and small battery-operated products like mobile phones, asset tracking devices, handheld computers and sports accessories.
Traxer personal security devices are immediately commercially available through Mobintelecom and its distribution partners. Fastrax GPS receivers are globally available via a network of qualified distributors. More information on Fastrax distributors is available at http://www.fastrax.fi/distrib/kartta.html.
