WirelessDevNet.com Press Release

CSR Brings Its Bluetooth Software to the Symbian OS

RICHARDSON, Texas--Sept. 23, 2003--CSR (Cambridge Silicon Radio), a market leader in Bluetooth silicon, today announced that it is making CSR chipsets available for use with the Symbian OS(TM). By integrating CSR's BlueCore host software with the Symbian OS' existing Bluetooth software stack, CSR can offer Symbian's licensees a quick and efficient route to Bluetooth-enabled mobile handsets.

Symbian develops and licenses Symbian OS, the global industry standard operating system for advanced mobile phones, to the world's leading handset manufacturers, which account for over 80 per cent of worldwide annual mobile phone sales. Support for Bluetooth was designed into Symbian's core platform from the outset. This move provides tighter integration between CSR's Bluetooth host software and the Symbian OS, reducing Symbian OS licensees' time to integrate CSR's Bluetooth solution into their designs. CSR's BlueCore silicon is already in use in over 60 percent of v1.1 qualified Bluetooth products on the market.

Martin Coul, Worldwide Technology Partner Program Director, Symbian, commented, "Symbian provides its licensees with the 'smartest' technology available. As CSR is committed to quality and ease of integration with its BlueCore hardware and host software, we are pleased to offer CSR our customers as a Symbian Platinum Partner."

Eric Janson, worldwide vice president, marketing, CSR added, "Integrating our software into the Symbian OS Bluetooth stack means mobile manufacturers can offer their customers the most complete Bluetooth functionality available." Janson continued, "This partnership provides Symbian OS licensees the option of a quick and easy route to Bluetooth enable their mobile phones."
