iaSolution and Veloxsoft Team Up to Dominate J2ME Market in Asia
TAIPEI, Taiwan and SEOUL, Korea, Sept. 23 -- iaSolution, the
first and largest Sun J2ME(TM) licensee in Greater China, and Veloxsoft, the
largest J2ME(TM) licensee in Korea, announce the strategic partnership today
to jointly promote and dominate the J2ME(TM) market in Asia Pacific. Based on
the partnership agreement, iaSolution and Veloxsoft, the two most
well-recognized J2ME(TM) solution providers in this region, will cross-license
each other's complementary technology in GSM/GPRS and CDMA areas, co-develop
the next generation J2ME(TM) software solutions on WCDMA and CDMA 1x EV-DO,
and share the combined 150 engineers in project deployment to continuously
offer the most comprehensive J2ME(TM) solutions in the industry to Asian and
worldwide handset customers.
Java(TM) handset is expected to account for 20% of total handset shipment
in 2003 and reach 50% in 2005. Following the prevailing ODM/OEM business
model in handset manufacturing, South Korea, Taiwan and China have now become
the most important handset design/ production base in the world. iaJET(TM),
the GSM/GPRS solution by iaSolution and VMID(TM), the CDMA solution by
Veloxsoft, are the two most successful commercial J2ME(TM) solutions in this
region. With the newly announced strategic partnership, both companies expect
to significantly increase customer satisfaction and collective market share.

Under the teaming agreement passed by top management of iaSolution and
Veloxsoft, both parties will immediately cooperate in developing and cross-
licensing embedded Java(TM) VM software, as well as jointly promoting each
others' solution. With proven and successful track records, iaSolution and
Veloxsoft will extend their existing business coverage in China, Taiwan, and
South Korea, and this combination will achieve a dominant position in the
J2ME(TM) market.
