Perseus Wireless Debuts Mobile Technology for High Quality, Real-Time Wireless Security

LAS VEGAS – April 1, 2004 – Perseus Wireless announced today the debut of the PerseusPhone for Mobile Access to Security Video. The Perseus system utilizes the VideoServer and PerseusPhone to transmit high quality, real-time security video over a cellular network to a portable device, such as a phone or handheld computer. Perseus will leverage proprietary relationships with such global partners as AT&T/Cingular, PacketVideo, Sony Ericsson, Nokia, Clark Security Products and General Lock & Security to bring its wireless security solution to market.

“Until now, wireless security has been tethered by distance, price and browser-based restrictions,” said Marshall Merrifield, CEO and Co-founder of Perseus Wireless. “Our proprietary technology represents a leap forward in security, buffering and data compression that enables commercial and residential customers to have high quality, real-time video transmitted directly to their cellular phone at an inexpensive price point.”

Industrial, commercial and institutional customers will be able to utilize the PerseusPhone and VideoServer to extend existing security systems into a wireless environment and provide high-quality, secure video over the AT&T/Cingular cellular network. The Perseus mobile security solution supports cellular, WiFi and Ethernet connectivity and the GPRS standard to work with existing 2G, 2.5G and 3G wireless networks.

The Perseus Wireless security solution is available through authorized Perseus dealers and exclusively carried over the AT&T/Cingular wireless network.

PerseusPhone: The PerseusPhone provides mobile access enhanced with secure authentification, intelligent buffering and advanced MPEG-4 compression to produce real-time, full-motion video. Customers have a choice between two price points—the Sony Ericsson P900 and Nokia 3620 phones.

Perseus VideoServer: The Perseus VideoServer is a stand alone or wireless extension that provides a low-cost, small-footprint solution for streaming video output. The VideoServer can be connected to existing security cameras, CCTV systems and DVRs over standard cellular networks for display on the PerseusPhone.

“With residential and commercial mobile security installations poised for explosive growth, privacy remains an important issue; therefore, Perseus has ensured its privacy and security practices exceed industry standards,” said Merrifield.

To ensure privacy, all dealers and end-users will be required to sign a privacy agreement promising to use the technology only for commercial and residential security purposes.

According to a 2003 Security Sales & Integration dealer survey conducted by Readex, the electronic security market—access control, burglary, CCTV, fire, systems integration—represents $20.3 billion in revenue; furthermore, the entire industry, including fencing, lighting, guard services, armed transport and patrol, represents more than $96 billion annually. The survey estimated that more than two million electronic security systems would be installed in 2003.

In addition to commercial clients, Perseus Wireless can take advantage of a growing trend in residential security towards “E-enabled” home security applications. According to a survey from Parks Associates, 56 percent of U.S. households valued remote monitoring capability with their security systems. Overall, more than 36 percent of Internet households—broadband or otherwise—have an electronic home security system. Since the nationwide penetration rate of electronic home security systems was 24 percent in 2002, the Parks Associates’ survey indicates homes hooked into the Internet weigh in heavily as owners of security systems. Considering that an October 2003 eMarketer survey indicates broadband households will increase to more than 83 million households by 2005, the wireless residential security market appears poised for explosive growth.
