WirelessDevNet.com Press Release
Digital Airways and fg-microtec partner to bring handset manufacturers optimized WAP browser
Paris, France and Munich, Germany, April 5, 2004 * * * Digital Airways and fg microtec announce that they will collaborate to develop optimized WAP browser and MMI (Man Machine Interface) solutions for mobile handsets manufacturers. As part of the deal, Digital Airways – the developer of the Wapaka browser and MMI engine – and fg microtec – the global supplier of embedded PFC™ (predictive flow control) solutions – will develop an enhanced version of the Wapaka browser using fg microtec’s fmM1252 software.
Wapaka-fm, the resulting browser, will offer seamless WAP 2.0 and MMI system implementation with higher throughput rates by predicting network behavior to determine best transmission parameters, dynamically under any network condition.
Digital Airways’s Wapaka is a WAP and cHTML micro-browser technology available on a wide range of platforms, from mobile phones to PDAs and PCs.
fg microtec’s fmM1252 is a tuning software that supports the new WAP 2.0 transport protocol for GPRS phones. Based on a thin client, low footprint software solution, it is tightly integrated into wireless devices at the chipset level. fmM1252 provides optimized versions of the Internet TCP and HTTP protocols for more efficient delivery of content over wireless networks.
“While fg-microtec and Digital Airways have each been successful at deploying their solution independently, we both realize handset manufacturers are looking for more integrated solutions,” said Ramin Mirbaha, Managing Director at fg microtec. “Thus it made perfect sense to join forces.”
“One of the most important aspects for the widespread acceptance of new mobile data services is user experience. By combining Digital Airways’ WAP browser and MMI engine with fg-microtec’s fmM1252 tuning software in today's GPRS phones, handset manufacturers and mobile operators can offer users new levels of quality of service and enhanced user experience, while at the same time reducing engineering costs” said Philippe Silberzahn, CEO and co-founder of Digital Airways.
Digital Airways and fg microtec plan to introduce Wapaka-fm in the second quarter of 2004.
