MOTOROLA AND CSR COLLABORATE ON REFERENCE DESIGN FOR BLUETOOTH ENABLED PHONES
Richardson, TX and Cambridge, UK, April 6, 2004 - CSR PLC (LSE: CSR.L), a market leader in Bluetooth silicon, and Motorola, Inc. have announced the two companies are to work together to create Bluetooth-enabled product designs to help manufacturers significantly reduce the development time of enhanced multimedia feature phones. The i.250-21 Feature Phone Reference Design with Bluetooth functionality will be available in the second quarter of 2004. Pricing is dependent on volume and features. Motorola's i.250-21 Feature Phone Reference Design was demonstrated at 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France.
A reference design is a fully featured design platform on which mobile phone manufacturers can design their own multimedia phones that are cost-effective and incorporate the latest technologies and that suit their local networks.
CSR and Motorola have teamed up to bring Bluetooth wireless connectivity to the i.250 Feature Phone Reference Design by combining CSR's BlueCore Bluetooth single chip with Motorola's Bluetooth upper software stack.
The i.250-21 Feature Phone Reference Design, based on Motorola's i.250-21 platform, includes rich multimedia and connectivity features for GSM (Global System Mobile) and GPRS (General Packet Radio System) handset developers.
The Reference Design provides connectivity with USB (Universal Serial Bus), Infrared and Bluetooth to allow data transfer between phones and other compatible devices.
The design includes BVRP Software's mobile PhoneToolsŪ application, which enables consumers to easily input their Personal Information Manager (PIM) data, to SMS (Short Messaging Service) other users, and to send emails using their PC's full-sized keyboard. With the Feature Phone Reference Design and PhoneTools users can also synchronize their phone book and copy selected files between their phones and their PCs via an easy-to-use graphical interface.
