JBlend Platform Delivers J2ME Execution Environment for New Alcatel Phone Now Shipping


SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- 04/08/2004 -- Aplix Corporation, the global leader in deploying Java™ technology in mobile phones, announced today that its JBlend™ platform is incorporated in the new handset from Alcatel that is now shipping. The Alcatel One Touch™ 735i is among the first available mobile phones that support the Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME™) Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP) 2.0.

Working closely with Aplix, Alcatel implemented JBlend technology for the One Touch™ 735i, which incorporate J2ME Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) 1.0 (JSR30), MIDP 2.0 (JSR118), Wireless Messaging API (JSR-120) and Aplix's patent-protected KFTT™ acceleration technology. This powerful and comprehensive Java platform enables consumers to enjoy a rich, interactive Java experience.

JBlend technology is the most deployed Java execution platform for mobile phones worldwide. More than 30 million handsets have been shipped with JBlend technology, which has been incorporated into more than 80 wireless handset models from 13 different manufacturers. Phone manufacturers are able to benefit from Aplix's extensive experience with a wide variety of chipsets, operating systems and network operator profiles to quickly and efficiently deliver advanced, feature-rich products to market.

The JBlend platform is the de facto solution for running Java applications and services in mobile phones. It includes a high-performance, small-footprint Java virtual machine™ for a variety of configurations (CLDC, CDC) and profiles/extensions (MIDP, JTWI, i-mode DoJa, Vodafone, Sprint and others); and all the porting tools and test suites needed to Java-enable a full line of consumer products. About The Alcatel One Touch™ 735i
The One Touch™ 735i comes with a large color screen and a built-in camera with a x8 zoom. Incorporating Java™ MIDP 2.0 technology the handset is capable of downloading games and applications over Wap and the Internet. Designed for comfortable game-playing it makes the most of its landscape screen and fast handling with its ''action'' and central browsing keys. It also brings speed and ease of use to the photo and MMS functions, plus the possibility for the user to record his own voice while taking a photo. The One Touch™ 735i is also GPRS class 10, up to 300 hours of standby time and 7 hours of talk time, 89g only, 24-tone polyphonic tunes, 60 instruments and percussion sounds.
