The Thousand Mile Mobile: Mille Miglia Goes Mobile with Siemens

ROME--April 21, 2004--A reason to celebrate for the fans of the Mille Miglia: As a sponsor of this traditional event, which has been taking place for over 75 years, Siemens Information and Communication Mobile (Siemens mobile for short) is providing interesting and entertaining information on this year's "oldtimer" race (6 to 9 May 2004) on the mobile phone. Siemens mobile is offering an information source with all you need to know about the "thousand mile" race on the wap.millemiglia.com mobile portal. Simply register on the internet at www.siemens-mobile.com/millemiglia to have results and current points standing sent free of charge via SMS or MMS to the specified mobile phone number. In addition, in this year's race Siemens mobile is presenting to the drivers a very special SX1 Limited Edition. This comes in red and is a lovely keepsake for the celebrity drivers of the 1927 to 1957 vintage oldtimers.

During the individual stages and at the end of each racing day, an information service provides the participants and registered spectators automatically with all the main results via SMS or MMS. The participating racing teams will additionally be supplied with the latest information on the progression of the route for the given stage and the latest points standing on their Siemens SX1 Limited Edition. The individual teams can contact each another using a chat function. And the race spectators and fans won't miss out either: They can also call up the program, results and rankings for the oldtimer race via the mobile Mille Miglia portal at wap.millemiglia.com and send postcards. The offer is rounded off by a gallery of photos and videos all about the race, which can be viewed via WAP on the mobile or on the internet at www.siemens-mobile.com/millemiglia.

All the drivers will receive an SX1 Limited Edition Mille Miglia from Siemens. This is a strictly limited special edition of the smartphone which comes in a special red varnish finish. Thanks to the integrated SX1 video camera, the most exciting scenes can be captured and viewed on the 65,000-color display. Each victory can be made a photo-finish with the VGA camera (640 x 480 pixels) and every stage can be organized perfectly thanks to the extensive organizer functions. MP3 players and VHF radio provide the ultimate in entertainment. An exclusive add-on software keeps the drivers up to date at all times: At the press of a button, for example, they can brush up on current placings, the pending route sections and the history of the Mille Miglia.

"Our Limited Edition SX1 is as modern as the vehicles on the Mille Miglia are nostalgic. But it's not just the special varnish finish that makes that all important difference, but rather the numerous mobile services that we offer for the drivers exclusively on the SX1", says Rudi Lamprecht, member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG. "Being brought quickly up to date and communicating at the press of a button is what counts. We are delighted to be able to contribute to the cultural and sporting event of the Mille Miglia with our mobile services."
