Wheat Wireless Services Introduces Wireless Voice over Internet Protocol for Vessels at Sea
RESTON, Va.--April 28, 2004--
Wheat Wireless Services Inc. (www.wheatwireless.net) today announced a new, inexpensive VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) service that fully integrates with all of the company's wireless maritime broadband products; TeleSea Platinum (satellite), TeleSea Blue (satellite), TeleSea Gold (coastal) or TeleSea Marina. The four TeleSea capabilities provide high-speed wireless Internet access to vessels at sea or at a marina.
By implementing an innovative, reliable VoIP capability that delivers high voice quality, Wheat Wireless Services can offer its customers cost-effective phone service to virtually anywhere in the world. Customers can make calls utilizing Wheat Wireless Services' VoIP capability for an average cost of $.50 per minute. Traditional satellite calls can cost between $2 and $8 per minute.
"Communications capabilities while at sea have traditionally been very expensive and very limited," said Forrest C. Wheat, Sr., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Wheat Wireless Services. "With our introduction of TeleSea last year, we literally brought high-speed Internet to an industry still grappling with dial-up speeds. Through our new VoIP service, we are again changing the communications landscape of the maritime industry. We are providing mariners unlimited, reliable and affordable access to voice, video and data while at sea."
VoIP Equipment Pricing
The equipment installation charge for new TeleSea Gold Coastal Service customers is $6,000 for Internet service with VoIP capability and $5,000 for service without VoIP. The added equipment installation for existing TeleSea Blue customers is $1,000.
Reduced Pricing for TeleSea Gold Coastal Services
The TeleSea Gold service is now available to non-commercial users for a flat fee of $99.95 per month. TeleSea's Gold Coastal Service is the first terrestrial based high-speed Internet service that can be accessed while at sea at a distance of up to 30 miles from the coast. This service provides access speeds up to 11Mbps, which is up to 200 times faster than a standard 56kb dial-up connection. TeleSea's new unlimited flat-fee service is designed for customers who want Internet access while underway without expensive per/minute charges.
"Wheat Wireless Services' philosophy has always been that access to cutting-edge technologies, such as our new VoIP service, should not be limited to large corporations or the exceedingly wealthy," said Mr. Wheat. "Mariners recognize quality and value, and by employing our new highly competitive pricing model, we are able to provide recreational maritime customers with access to an affordable suite of innovative communications solutions."
