Ericsson Awarded GSM Expansion Contract in Chongqing, China
Ericsson has signed a GSM expansion contract with Chongqing Mobile
Communication Company Limited (Chongqing Mobile) in Chongqing, China
to supply complete network solutions including telecom services. The
contract is valued at USD 27 million.
Under the contract, Ericsson will supply Chongqing Mobile with
advanced infrastructure equipment and telecom services, including the
latest switching platforms, radio base stations, network deployment,
network support, and the upgrading of Operation Support System (OSS).
The network after expansion will have EDGE capability, which lays a
solid foundation for Chongqing Mobile's network to migrate smoothly
to 3G in the future.
The implementation has already started and will be completed by the
end of this year. The total capacity of Chongqing Mobile's GSM
network will reach 6 million subscribers.
"After the expansion, our network capacity will be significantly
increased, and we will also be able to roll out higher speed data
services and other attractive new services for our subscribers in a
cost effective way," says Shen Changfu, General Manager of Chongqing
