Onset Releases METAmessage 4.2 For BlackBerry, Enhancing Legal And Voice Features
PHOENIX, AZ -- LawNet 2004 Conference -- Onset Technology, a leading developer of enterprise access software for wireless handheld devices, announced today that METAmessage® for Wireless version 4.2 is now available. The new version, designed for use in conjunction with the BlackBerry® wireless platform from Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM) (TSX: RIM), provides significant enhancements benefiting the legal community and making voicemail as easy to manage as email. Onset is showing the METAmessage v. 4.2 capabilities in the RIM booth (#115) at the LawNet 2004 conference.
Amongst many added features and improvements, METAmessage version 4.2 includes full support for anticipated Carpe Diem version upgrades. Carpe Diem is a time-tracking system for businesses that bill multiple external customers in a day, such as law firms and finance companies.

Spell-checking speed on the BlackBerry handheld has been increased by installing a dictionary on the handheld itself rather than by relying on server-side processing. Voice features include letting users check BlackBerry handhelds to see if they have received messages on their corporate voicemail system -- users need not call in and navigate a voicemail system just to find out if messages have arrived.

METAmessage -- Legal
METAmessage, used by over 150 law firms (40+ in the US AmLaw 100) and over 1000 enterprise customers, is a complete, out-of-the-box solution for BlackBerry handheld access to the enterprise. Users can interact directly with a range of enterprise data systems including time-and-billing programs such as Carpe Diem, document management/enterprise applications such as Interwoven and InterAction, and internally developed databases. The user simply opens a form on the handheld and either requests information from or adds information to the data source. Users can also print anywhere, including network printers; spell check outgoing messages; and, get network documents to send, read, or print.
METAmessage -- Voice
METAmessage offers the convenience of quick voicemail access via a user's BlackBerry handheld -- whether it is phone enabled or not. Mobile professionals immediately know when email arrives, and now they can immediately know when voicemail arrives by simply checking their handheld. And, instead of having to call in and navigate the voicemail system to listen to messages, METAmessage will, on request, call the user -- to play back new messages via any convenient phone, whether it is a cell phone, hotel phone, pay phone, or the handheld itself. These capabilities integrate with any enterprise voicemail and PBX system using either Onset's patent-pending voicemail access technology or the voicemail API integration.
