Swagger Wireless And ThumbPlay Wins Best New Music Mobile Content Award at Mobilemusicon in Miami
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 1, 2004 -- NEW YORK -- ThumbPlay, a leader in the delivery of wireless content to a wide variety of networks and devices, and Swagger Wireless, a leading wireless marketing, promotions, and production company focused on the urban entertainment industry today announced that it has won the “Best New Music Mobile Content” Award at the 2nd Annual MobileMusiCon™, held November 18-19, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida.
The award was presented at the conclusion of the conference’s first day, Thursday, November 18. Gerald Casale, founder of DEVO, presented the award to Are Traasdahl, founder and president of ThumbPlay, on behalf of ThumbPlay and Swagger Wireless. ThumbPlay and Swagger Wireless partnered to create an innovative in-venue application on the recent ‘Jay-Z and Friends’ tour, in which concertgoers were able to send text messages that were displayed on large video screens installed in the concert venues. ThumbPlay and Swagger Wireless created the first travelling text-to-big screen application, which enables marketers to develop truly interactive promotional programs with consumers.
The Mobile Music Awards are held to recognize excellence, innovation and creativity in the fields of mobile music technology, production, marketing, and the development of new applications, content and services. The Mobile Music Awards were judged by a panel of industry experts, and were decided by the majority vote of the judges. The Miami MobileMusicCon is produced by Consect, a leading provider of U.S. market mobile analysis, and provides comprehensive wireless expertise and solutions for Entertainment, Publishing and Media Companies.
“The ThumbPlay solution, with Swagger Wireless, has helped demonstrate the enormous value of community-created content in the growing wireless media industry,” said Mark Frieser, CEO of Consect, and a judge on the Mobile Music Awards jury. “We are glad that ThumbPlay chose to launch its venture at MobileMusicCon, and we believe that they will generate further interest from music artists in developing unique mobile music applications.”
ThumbPlay, headed by mobile media experts, is headquartered in New York City, and serves the needs of the growing mobile media industry, enabling television producers, music artists and producers, film and Internet producers, mobile handset manufacturers, retailers, and mobile operators to deliver mobile content in creative promotional packages that can be programmed over any wireless network and any mobile device. ThumbPlay, which is backed by i-Hatch Ventures and Redwood Partners, will eventually produce a consumer media portal, which will enable users to download content, regardless of network of handset.
“We are grateful for the accolade that the Mobile Music Awards jury has bestowed upon ThumbPlay. Consect and Wicked Wireless have, in the Mobile Music Convention, produced an event that has awakened the music industry to the tremendous opportunities that exist to market artists and tracks through wireless networks,” said Are Traasdahl, founder and CEO of ThumbPlay. “We thank our partner, Swagger Wireless, for providing us with the great opportunity to demonstrate our content delivery system on the recent ‘Jay-Z and Friends’ tour, and we look forward to further work with them and other music marketing firms in the future.”
The ThumbPlay application for Swagger Wireless’ ‘Jay-Z and Friends’ tour covers all major U.S. carriers, at a cost of 99 cents per message sent up to the big screen. The promotion runs for 30 minutes before each of the 40 concerts on the current U.S. Jay-Z tour, providing a revenue source for the artist as well as a fun, interactive promotional program for audience members.
“’We have had a tremendous response from the urban mobile community for the ‘Holla at Ya Boyz’ promotion, and we are very glad to receive a Mobile Music Award for this application,” said Loreal Coppedge, co-founder of Swagger. “This is an exciting time to be in the mobile industry, as artists and producers are extremely receptive to creative campaigns that further the bond between fans and performers.”
ThumbPlay has a content management system that enables video, audio, and text to be delivered through all channels and networks, and can be seamlessly billed through participating mobile carriers, enabling greater revenue shares for its partners.
