TCS SIGNS MULTI-YEAR EXTENSION WITH CENTENNIAL WIRELESS FOR E9-1-1 SERVICES
ANNAPOLIS, MD – February 5, 2004 - TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a global leader in wireless data technology, announced that Centennial Wireless, one of the largest independent wireless telecommunications service providers in the United States and the Caribbean, has signed a five year contract extension with TCS to deliver life-saving Phase I and Phase II E9-1-1 services to Centennial’s Midwest and Southeast markets.
Mike Schulte, Technical Project Manager for Centennial, stated, “We require an E9-1-1 service that is reliable, accurate and appropriate to our subscriber base. Centennial relies on TCS’ proficiency to successfully deploy even our most difficult installations.”
The TCS Wireless E9-1-1 solution enables wireless carriers to meet Phase I and Phase II of the FCC’s mandate while providing the life-saving emergency services and security that wireless consumers expect. Utilizing the unique architecture of the Xypoint® Location Platform (XLP), TCS enables wireless carriers to handle wireless E9-1-1 calls by delivering the 10-digit callback number and originating location information to the appropriate Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). In addition to its technical platform, TCS provides carriers with end-to-end support and all aspects of deployment, from switch integration, database management and Geographic Information Services (GIS) to compliance expertise and cost-recovery assistance with its PSAP E9-1-1 Readiness tools.
“TCS consistently applies its industry knowledge, unique flexibility and regulatory compliance expertise to address a variety of complex E9-1-1 issues to keep us on schedule,” Schulte added. “Using TCS' Xypoint® Location Platform allows us to deliver wireless E9-1-1 Phase I and Phase II location service to our customers with confidence in its comprehensive delivery."
“The TCS solution provides Centennial Wireless with an E9-1-1 solution that is proven, straightforward to implement and expand, and transparent to our customers,” said Jeff Shively, Centennial’s Vice President of Engineering.
“We’re excited that Centennial has chosen TCS as their continued provider for E9-1-1 Phase I and Phase II services,” said Richard Young, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for TCS. “By choosing our solution, Centennial Wireless ensures their subscribers will benefit from TCS’ years of experience in deploying and maintaining location solutions.”
