Data Representations Launches Simplicity Version 3.0 for Palm OS

San Jose, California, - At the PalmSource(R) Developer conference, Data Representations, Inc. today announced Simplicity Version 3.0 for Palm OS(R), Simplicity Version 3.0 for Palm OS is an easy to use visual RAD tool for building robust J2ME/MIDP applications. By dragging and dropping visual parts, a software developer can assemble user interfaces, images, threads, timers and network communications. Simplicity simplifies the process of building great J2ME applications that will run on palmOne(TM) devices, and other Palm Powered(TM) smart mobile devices.

Simplicity Version 3.0 for Palm OS includes palmOne's Java Toolkit, which enables J2ME/MIDP applications to run on all Tungsten(TM) handheld devices and Treo(TM) smartphones. Simplicity also includes the IBM(TM), WebSphere Micro Environment (WME) for palmOne handhelds which targets most handhelds running Palm OS 3.5 and higher. Simplicity's built-in emulators can show the user exactly how their applications will look while coding during the visual designing process. The emulator includes skins for a wide range of Palm Powered smart mobile devices, so the user can switch from device to device at any time. Simplicity also includes easy-to-use packaging features, which can handle all of the assembly and deployment requirements. It can produce JAR/JAD and PRC files with only a few mouse clicks, ready to install on an actual Palm Powered handheld.

"Simplicity is an important developer tool for the rapidly growing Palm OS software development community" said David Nagel, president and CEO, PalmSource, Inc. "We believe Simplicity complements the PalmSource strategy of providing the greatest choice and diversity to all our customers and partners, including our development partners."

"Simplicity provides a refreshing approach to the complex task of developing connected, mobile applications", says Nathanial Freitas, Senior Manager of Java at palmOne. "IBM's WebSphere Micro Environment provides a robust, high performance runtime environment for these applications, and our leading handled devices provide great usability and function. Data Representations' development tools enable developers to quickly and fully take advantage of that foundation for their own custom solutions."

Simplicity's Execution-On-The-Fly(TM) technology integrates every change to the application's code instantly into the running application. There is no need to recompile the application with every change. The application continues to run in the emulator, and each change occurs instantly. So even before compiling, a developer will know if what they designed is correct. This is a great time-saver for developers of all levels. Other features include the Sourcerer's Apprentice(TM), which is a code completion tool, and The Code Sourcerer(TM), which is an automatic coding tool that can create large blocks of code by interviewing the user in plain English. These tools eliminate many possible errors, providing a guide to all possibilities.

Simplicity Version 3.0 for Palm OS can be extended to build end-to-end, network-aware mobile/enterprise applications when added to Data Representations' J2EE/J2ME tool, Simplicity for Mobile Servers(TM). Using XML over HTTP, Simplicity for Mobile Servers makes it easy to collect data from JDBC data sources and legacy applications for building interactive, MIDlet to SERVlet, wireless applications.
