WirelessDevNet.com Press Release

New Series 60 Platform portal opens for business

As the world’s leading terminal software platform, the Series 60 Platform has much to offer for operators, enterprises and application developers. And on 18th February 2004, a new website opened for business, offering anyone interested in the Series 60 Platform a quick way of finding out what is happening.

The website, www.series60.com, includes six main sections: Terminal Manufacturers, Operators, Enterprises, Product Creation Community, Developers and Devices.

Launched by Nokia Technology Platforms with the support of Series 60 licensees Nokia, Panasonic, Sendo, Samsung and Siemens, the site serves as the main portal for a wide variety of Series 60 Platform information for all key stakeholders. The site is an important new channel for Series 60 licensee content, such as product information, news and documents. It also gives visibility on Series 60 Community member achievements to the other members of the Series 60 Community, which consists of users, enterprises, developers, operators, licensees, competence centers, contractors and semiconductor vendors.

Developers who are creating applications for Series 60 can find a comprehensive set of business and technical overviews. In addition, the site has links to the Series 60 licensees’ developer sites for relevant tools and SDKs.

The Series 60 platform, a complete Symbian OS based smartphone software product, supports large color screens making entertainment and business applications easy to use. Series 60’s suite of applications makes the software well suited to support new mobile services, such as rich content downloading, E-mail, PIM and MMS.

Nokia is committed to the success of the Series 60 Platform. Nokia has launched to market several devices based on Series 60 Platform. Nokia also understands the importance of a richly diverse market and has actively licensed Series 60 Platform to other leading manufacturers, Siemens, Panasonic, Samsung, and Sendo. Not only do these manufacturers bring innovations to Series 60, but they also provide the consumers and enterprises with a choice of a wide range of different but compatible devices from multiple manufacturers. Furthermore, Nokia is determined to support the long-term success of the Symbian OS, upon which Series 60 Platform is built. It is vital to sustain the long-term market success for Symbian and Series 60 Platform in order to enable healthy competition in the mobile OS market and to stimulate innovation throughout the value chain.

The Series 60 Platform is here to stay and with the new www.series60.com website, its impact on the mobile world can only grow.
