Handango Launches Download Client for Windows Mobile

CANNES, France--February 23, 2004--Today at 3GSM World Congress, Handango, the leading provider of mobile downloads, launched Handango InHand, an intelligent device-resident download client, for Windows Mobile-based Smartphones. Using this first-of-its-kind product, operators can increase the attach rate for mobile downloads by delivering an on-device, fully-managed and branded customer experience.

Handango InHand has previously shipped for Symbian UIQ 7.0+ devices and is currently bundled as the Sony Ericsson Application Shop Client on all P900 smartphones. With the launch of the Windows Mobile version, Handango InHand becomes the first device-resident download client available for multiple open-standards operating systems. With the two versions of Handango InHand, operators can deploy similar services across multiple smartphones, ensuring a consistent user experience, strong branding and powerful differentiation.

Handango InHand is created especially for operators who wish to leverage the rich application features of Windows Mobile-based smartphones to increase their data revenues. Current market estimates indicate that less than 10% of mobile phone users actively customize their phones with downloads. With market trials of Handango InHand, Handango has seen rates increase in a range of 20% to 40%, indicating strong potential for order-of-magnitude growth in operator revenues from download services.
"Handango InHand is a first-of-its-kind download client for Windows Mobile," said Randy Eisenman, president and chief executive officer at Handango. "Handango InHand unleashes the potential of Windows Mobile-based smartphones to generate substantial revenues from download services."

"Handango InHand adds to the rich customer experience of Windows Mobile devices with an easy to install, customizable client that encourages customers to try new services and applications," said Mark Spain, Director of Mobile Devices Developer Marketing of Microsoft. "Handango InHand adds rich functionality to Windows Mobile while opening new revenue possibilities for mobile operators." Operators can fully customize the client to suit their unique branding and customer targets. All graphics, backgrounds, catalog listings, purchase methods, currencies, languages and even the name of the client itself can be modified to match the operator's brand.

Using Handango InHand, operators can deliver software, games, themes and ringtones. All downloads represent the freshest and best titles available because they are hand picked from Handango's selection of more than 75,000. Using Handango InHand, mobile subscribers can try, download and buy titles with just a few keystrokes.

Handango InHand offers an amazing customer experience. Several unique features include:

* Offline Access. Subscribers who are out of service range or who do not have a data plan can preview downloads within Handango InHand, providing a compelling incentive for establishing data service.
* On-Demand Content. Customers can update Handango InHand at their convenience, refreshing the catalog with the newest titles.
* Seamless DRM (Digital Rights Management). Handango InHand automatically generates device-specific unlock codes without any hassle for the customer while delivering rock-solid security to developers and song artists.
* Download Safeguard. When customers are downloading and wireless service fails or is intermittent, Handango InHand's download safeguard allows them to resume interrupted downloads at any point without losing any data.
* Online Vault. Downloads are stored in an online account. Customers can access the account at any time to restore lost downloads to their phones.

Handango InHand for Windows Mobile was developed in conjunction with Pocket X Software, a premier Windows Mobile developer and makers of the best-selling Photo Contacts software. Pocket X provided client-side development integrating the device-resident client with Handango AMPP, Handango's application management and provisioning platform, to create a seamless customer experience.

Handango currently provides Windows Mobile download services to the majority of operators and phone manufacturers supporting Windows Mobile-based devices including Orange, O2, Motorola, Verizon Wireless, AT&T Wireless and T-Mobile USA.
