Asoka Showcases New Powerline Communications Networking and Security Products

SAN CARLOS, Calif.--Jan. 6, 2004--The Next Way to Network

In-Stat Group predicts that the networked home and office marketplace will expand from US$1.8 billion to US$5.3 billion worldwide by 2007 and the commercial networking marketplace will grow from $4.29 million to $9 billion worldwide by 2007. This includes Wi-Fi as well as other networking products. Powerline Communications (PLC), a complimentary network solution to Wi-Fi that uses electrical wiring as a conduit for data transmission, gets a boost this week from two new home networking products and an entire new commercial network solution introduced by Asoka(TM) USA Corporation.

Home Networking

PlugLink(TM) Ethernet Wall Mount (PL9641-ETH) offers home and office users the simplicity of employing existing electrical wires as the network conduit via PLC technology. The PL9641-ETH adds to Asoka's PlugLink product family with easy of use features along with the additional convenience of a universal power supply (110V/220V) and foldable plugs allowing portable computing travelers to set up immediate and instantaneous networking capabilities while keeping the PL9641-ETH's physical footprint small and light enough to fit in a briefcase.

The PlugLink PL Wireless Access Point (PL9540-WAP), a third-generation PLC product, is designed for the mobile and Wi-Fi user. It lets users employ both powerline and 802.11g networking simultaneously using convenient wall mount plug capabilities. Like it's cousin, Asoka's PL9520-WAP, the PL9540-WAP is ideal for laptop users who need to set up a network with no Wi-Fi dead zones and desire network extensions without pulling additional cable or wiring another system. Gamers find the PlugLink PL Wireless Access Point ideal for enhancing existing gaming networks to expand party and play locations. In addition, the PL9540-WAP features a universal power supply and foldable plugs making it convenient for traveling.

Commercial Networking

Asoka introduces a new line of PLC networking and security solutions, called PlugLAN(TM), designed for the commercial networking market. The PlugLAN Network Jack (PL8730-EFP) is a 2004 CES Best of Innovations Award winner in the Integrated Home Systems category. The PlugLAN Network Jack takes the best of PLC technology and pushes the envelope as the world's first HomePlug compatible PLC integrated electrical jack that features both a standard outlet and Ethernet network plug. The PlugLAN Network Jack replaces traditional Cat-5 wiring and uses a standard electrical outlet that can immediately turn into an Internet access point. The PlugLink Network Jack completely eliminates the need for network adapters on a desk providing optimal space without the clutter of adapters and boxes.

Asoka also introduces the world's first PLC integrated security camera that is 100% user deployed with an Internet browser interface -- no special software installation required. The PlugLAN IP Camera (PL8830-CCD) provides a convenient and reliable way for users to set up a security system. A simple browser interface (i.e. Explorer(R), Netscape(R)) allows remote manageability on the Internet. PLC technology interfaces as the networking backbone when users insert the PlugLink IP Camera into any electrical outlet. Unlike X-10 IP Cameras that use low frequency technologies, the PlugLink IP Camera employs the industry's most advance modulation technology allowing for greater system reliability and less frequent part replacements. PlugLink IP Camera software also allows users to easily view four different IP cameras from one computer monitor via motion or still jpegs. Images can be captured and recorded onto a server or tape.

"Our PlugLink and new PlugLAN solutions fulfill the promise Asoka made to users over three years ago," explains TK Chan, president and CEO of Asoka. "Our goal is to Make Connectivity a Reality(TM) for everyone. Asoka's PlugLink Ethernet Wall Mount, PlugLink Wireless Access Point, PlugLAN Network Jack and PlugLAN IP Camera extend that promise."

About Asoka USA Corporation: Dedicated to Making Connectivity a Reality, Asoka specializes on an emerging de facto connectivity standard known as Powerline Communications (PLC). PLC employs existing electrical wiring of a home or building as the medium for data transmission. Asoka designs, develops, manufactures and provides no new wires(TM) network solutions to individuals and businesses looking for an easy-to-use, cost-effective and reliable way to share and integrate resources.
