Cobra Electronics 2004 Product Lines Powered By Industry-First Features and Breakthrough Technology

LAS VEGAS--Jan. 7, 2004--
Easy-to-Use Mobile Navigation, Longest-Range GMRS and Best in Class Radar Detectors Fuel Strategy for Continued Industry Leadership

Cobra Electronics Corporation (NASDAQ: COBR) introduces its most advanced, powerful and extensive line of products ever at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) today. Powered by the introduction of its "Plug and Go" mobile navigation devices, the company is blazing new trails in the GPS marketplace, while continuing its dominance in the GMRS and radar detector categories. Cobra's new lines feature industry-firsts across the board and award-winning products that continue to raise the performance bar year after year.

Cobra's industry firsts this year include: the first mobile navigation system that navigates from addresses beamed to it from a PDA; the industry's first full line of extended range GMRS/FRS two-way radios; and the most advanced radar detector available that significantly reduces false alerts in dense, urban areas.

"Cobra's success is a result of our commitment to listening to consumers and driving for industry firsts," said James Bazet, president and CEO of Cobra Electronics. "Our 2004 line is highlighted by our powerful entry into the mobile navigation and marine radio markets and our tireless pursuit of perfection in the two-way radio and radar detector categories."

Cobra's 2004 line continues the company's tradition of providing high-performance, easy-to-use products in contemporary designs featuring clean lines and premium finishes. Products featured at CES in Cobra's booth #10506 in the Central Hall, include:

Portable Mobile Navigation Line Drives Category in Ease-of-Use

Cobra's SKYNAV 3000 and 2000 Mobile Navigation Systems allow drivers to be on their way with industry-first features and by eliminating the need to download maps. The "Plug and Go" systems provide turn-by-turn directions and clear voice guidance to a specific address, intersection or almost two million points of interest.

While many systems require the user to spend time installing CDs or on a computer downloading maps, Cobra's units come conveniently loaded with North American street-level maps. The Cobra SKYNAV 3000 allows users to beam an address directly to the unit from a Palm(R) or Pocket PC(R) PDA with an infrared port, eliminating the need to key in an address and an internal gyroscope to track the vehicle's position even when the satellite signal is lost. The SKYNAV 2000 comes with major U.S. interstates and one detailed street-level regional map able to be viewed (consumers can select from 20 regions). Additional regional maps are already loaded onto the unit and can be quickly purchased by phone or online, and instantly accessed on the unit without the need of a computer.

Both units feature the portable navigation industry's largest screen, a 5.2-inch high-resolution, ultra-bright color display which is easy to see during the day or night. The products will be available at consumer electronics retailers in the second quarter of 2004. The Cobra SKYNAV 3000 retails at the suggested price of $1499.95, the Cobra SKYNAV2000 at $999.95.

Cobra's GMRS/FRS Radios Are Miles Ahead of the Competition

Cobra's 2004 line of microTALK(R) GMRS/FRS radios has achieved the industry's longest available range in the GMRS/FRS two-way radio category. Cobra will offer seven 22-channel radios next year with 3, 6, 8 and 10-mile ranges, making it the first manufacturer to announce a full line of extended range radios. Distinctive clamshell display packaging will complement the contemporary design of the radios and distinguish the microTALK line at retail. The new two-way radios will be available at major electronics retailers beginning in Q2 2004 with MSRPs ranging from $29.95 to $109.95.

Radar Detectors Take Range, Safety to New Levels

Cobra's next generation of the best-selling radar detector line incorporates industry leading detection technology that increases range and detects the new K and Ka POP Modes, with exclusive features that reduce false alerts, warn drivers about emergency vehicles and save power. The state-of-the-art performance is matched by the line's high tech appearance, with its sleek lines enhanced by shades of black and silver, and laced with metallic mesh.

Cobra's five 11-band models will be available at national retailers in the second quarter of 2004 with MSRPs ranging from $99.95 to $189.95.

GPS Units Cut Acquisition Time in Half

Cobra's hand-held GPS 100 and GPS 500 have a faster acquisition time than other GPS systems, are waterproof and will float if accidentally dropped in the water. The models feature Cobra's exclusive Accelerated Satellite Acquisition Protocol(TM) (ASAP(TM)) technology that accesses 18 channels, as opposed to the category standard of 12, to locate a user's position up to twice as fast as any GPS technology in the consumer market. In addition, the units also feature an easy-to-follow interface that enables users to input information and change screens as they do when using a personal computer. The GPS 100 retails for $149.95, the GPS 500 for $199.95.

Cobra is also introducing its GPS 1000DLX unit in mid-2004, which comes preprogrammed with Rand McNally Street Finder software for street-level mapping detail. This unit uses the next generation ASAP II(TM) for accelerated acquisition times and is memory card compatible for expanded memory. The GPS 1000DLX will retail for $249.95.

Marine Line Powered by Industry Firsts and Compelling Designs

Cobra's entry into the marine product category is defined by industry firsts including the largest LCD display screen available in fixed VHF radios and conformal coating on all electronic components in its marine power inverters to provide premium corrosion protection.

Cobra's Handheld VHF Marine Transceivers have up to 5 watts of power and selected models can be submersed in water. The transceivers are available at suggested retail prices ranging from $79.95 to $169.95.

Cobra's fixed mount VHF Marine Transceivers are submersible, with up to 25 watts of power and include full function DSC capability. The premium model is the first in the market to offer 2-inch channel numbers on the largest display available in fixed VHF radios and includes a combined speaker/microphone. Two models will be available at suggested retail prices of $169.95 and $209.95.

Cobra offers four Marine Power Inverters, available in 400, 800, 1500 and 2200-watt models, with ground fault circuit interrupter outlets and corrosion protection. The models are available at suggested retail prices ranging from $79.95 to $409.95.

Cobra's complete 2004 radar detector, GPS, GMRS/FRS and marine product lines are on display at Cobra's booth, #10506 in the Central Hall, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Jan. 8 - 11, 2004.
